West Lothian author's first book shares anti-bullying message

A West Lothian author’s first children’s book has a strong anti-bullying theme.

Linda Erskine’s book, ‘George and Mildred: The Attack of the Meanie Girls,’ was released on October 8 and is available to buy online.

The tale is a dog-centric yarn that was inspired by Linda’s own pooch, Kao, a 12-year-old boxer.

Kao encountered a tiny little Yorkie dog and they became friends, with the smaller dog comically taking on the role of protector.

Linda said: “We nicknamed them George and Mildred because of their size and their different temperaments, but the story grew into a life of its own and here we are,” said its author, a former Brampton, Ontario, resident, who recently moved to West Lothian.

The story evolves with the two friends standing up to the bullies of the dog park and, in turn, they learn to believe in themselves and each other.

Linda continued: “Bullying is a hard subject to bring up to our children, especially if they are the target of bullies. I believe this book is one way to introduce the topic and get kids talking.”
