West Lothian athlete Sarah Inglis runs inside Commonwealth Games standard in 5000m event

Lothian Running Club’s Sarah Inglis moved up to eighth on the Scottish all-time list for 5000 metres, writes Shane Fenton.

That’s following her personal best winning run at the Saturday Night Lights Endurance Series in Canada.

Sarah’s time of 15:24.17 was marginally inside her previous best (15:25.01) for the distance set in Belgium two years ago.

More significantly, it was well inside the standard laid down by Scottish Athletics for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

This was the Canada-based athlete’s first competitive run since missing out on an Olympic standard for the marathon at the British trials at Kew Gardens in London in March.

There was a positive consolation that day, though, as her time was within the Commonwealth Games marathon standard which means she now has the standard for two distances for next year’s Games in Birmingham.
