A teenager has been stabbed to death in west London amid a spate of violent knife crime in the capital.

Police were called to Lanfrey Place, off North End Road and yards from West Kensington station, just before 2.15pm on Thursday.

Officers and paramedics found a male, aged in his late teens, with stab injuries to his chest.

He was taken to hospital in central London but died a short while later. His next of kin have been informed.

Yousef Bahadory, who owns a dry cleaners close to the scene, told the Press Association: "The boy was on the floor. There was so much blood.

"Someone went to get a doctor from the surgery nearby and she was pumping his chest."

Robin Hopkins, from Coventry, who runs a courier business, told the Standard from the scene: "It was all being taped off as I arrived. It’s still all closed off now, with cars being redirected down by the side of the Old Oak pub.

"Police were very quick to evacuate the immediate area, well before ambulances arrived."

One homeowner in Lanfrey Place, who did not wish to be named, said it was quite common to see large groups of people in the area. "It was obvious that one day we would have something like this," she told Press Association.

"I quite often see people going back and forth, shouting, smoking, drinking."

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, who is under growing pressure over the capital's bloodshed, said: "Saddened and shocked to hear another young man has lost his life as a result of knife crime. His family and friends are in my thoughts.

"A crime scene is in place and investigation underway. There's no honour in staying silent: if you have information, please contact the police."

Meanwhile, the stabbing prompted Chelsea FC to warn fans to make alternative travel arrangements ahead of Thursday night's Dynamo Kiev match.

It said in a statement: "Supporters heading to tonight's game should be aware North End Road is currently closed in both directions between Lillie Road and Talgarth Road due to a police incident.

"They are currently on site carrying out investigations but the closure is likely to be for some time.

"Supporters who normally use North End Road are advised to make alternative arrangements."

Anyone with information on the stabbing in Kensington is asked to call police on 101, quoting CAD 4136 of March 7. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
