West Indies seal dominant 201-run victory over Bangladesh in first Test

NEW DELHI: The West Indies secured a commanding 201-run victory against Bangladesh in the first Test on Tuesday, with the match concluding when tail-end batsman Shoriful Islam had to retire due to injury.

Bangladesh, facing a substantial target of 334 and starting the day at 109-7, suffered early setbacks as Alzarri Joseph dismissed both Jaker Ali and Hasan Mahmud during the opening session at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua.

The match effectively ended with Bangladesh at 132-9 when Shoriful was forced to retire hurt after Joseph's bouncer struck his shoulder in the day's fifth over.

Earlier in the morning's third over, Joseph had claimed Mahmud's wicket, who was caught behind without scoring. Jaker's resistance ended at 31 runs when Joseph trapped him leg before wicket.

In Bangladesh's second innings, only four batters reached double figures, with Jaker's performance following his first-innings half-century. Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz led the scoring with 45 runs.

The West Indies bowling attack was spearheaded by Kemar Roach (3-20) and Jayden Seales (3-45), who proved most effective for the victorious side.

The series continues with the second and final Test scheduled to begin in Jamaica on Saturday.
