West Ham's promising 22-year-old goalkeeper Nathan Trott has departed the club for a season long loan at French Ligue 2 club AS Nancy Lorraine.
Trott made his senior Hammers debut in the FA Cup fourth-round win over Doncaster Rovers in January and was a regular member of David Moyes' first-team squad throughout the campaign.
Moyes in understood to rate Trott highly but as football.london reported in June a loan move away from the club this season was always likely in order to gain more first-team experience.
Trott signed for the Hammers Academy in 2016 and has since gone onto appear for the England Under-20 team.
The move to AS Nancy Lorraine will be Trott's second loan away from the club following a spell at AFC Wimbledon during the 2019/20 season.
AS Nancy Lorraine play in the second tier of French football following their relegation from the top flight in 2017 and after a 2020 takeover have ambitions to return to Ligue 1 this season.
Former Barnsley boss Daniel Stendel is the current manager of AS Nancy Lorraine, where he has once again linked up with Gauthier Ganaye who was CEO at Oakwell and now holds the same role with Nancy.
Ganaye was delighted to have sealed a deal for Trott, telling French publication L'Est Republicain: "He's a very good goalkeeper promised to be number one in the West Ham net [in the future].
"He was loaned to the English third division (Wimbledon in 2019/20) to toughen [up] but the season was stopped by the Covid and was hampered in its tracks. It took wait a bit, but we're really happy to have signed him."
