West Ham wonderkid signs first professional contract on his 17th birthday

West Ham youngster Amadou Diallo has put pen to paper on his first professional contract at the club having made it through the ranks at the Academy of Football.

On his 17th birthday, Diallo has been rewarded for his solid first half of the season, with two goals in eight games for the Under-23s so far this season having made his breakthrough as a 16-year-old last season.

A boyhood West Ham fan, Diallo joined the club aged 10 and in just seven short years has done enough to earn himself a professional deal.

He debuted for the under-18s in August 2017 aged 14 as he belied his young years. He also netted on his under-23s debut as a 15-year-old in December 2018.

"It feels amazing," Diallo told whufc.com

"I’ve been working for this my whole life, so I’m delighted to sign. It’s a very exciting moment for me and my family.

"I’d like to thank my family first of all, and all the coaches that I've worked with; all of them have had a big impact on me.

"One of my main dreams is to play for the Club because I grew up around Upton Park. Hearing the fans singing, I just wanted to play for West Ham United."

Diallo and his fellow Hammers youngsters will be playing two of their next three PL2 home games at London Stadium as they push for promotion from division two, starting against Stoke City on Monday night in Stratford.

Dimitri Halajko's youngsters return from their winter recess two points clear at the top of the table from Manchester United in second and are yet to lose in the league this season, with 13 wins and three draws so far.
