West Ham vs Tottenham live: Bergvall and Van de Ven score for Spurs after Soucek sent off

Tottenham defeated West Ham and inflicted more misery on Graham Potter’s side who slumped back into the relegation zone after a 3-0 loss at the London Stadium.

The Hammers began the match well but were thrown off their stride by a Cristian Romero header that was eventually ruled out for a foul in the build-up. The hosts made it to the half time break on level terms but Spurs responded quicker after the break.

Another corner undid West Ham’s good work as Pape Sarr nodded home from the back post before Tomas Soucek was sent off for a rash tackle and the Irons dropped to 10-men.

Two goals followed, one for Lucas Bergvall through a fine header and another for Micky van de Ven scuffing in a snapshot from inside the area.

Spurs earned all three points and drew level with Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table while West Ham languish at the opposite end and have more questions to answer.

Tottenham ease past West Ham to put Graham Potter back under pressure

19:51 , Mike Jones

Graham Potter found himself back under pressure as Tottenham returned to winning ways with a 3-0 London derby demolition of West Ham.

Pape Matar Sarr, Lucas Bergvall and Micky van de Ven got the goals as Spurs, playing their first match since the departure of chairman Daniel Levy, bounced back from the 1-0 home defeat by Bournemouth a fortnight ago.

But for West Ham, any of the confidence garnered from their surprise 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest evaporated as, for the second home game in a row, they wilted in front of a London rival.

He’s been clattered on the ankle and needs a minute before he’s able to play one.

The ball is swept clear and the teams head down the tunnel.

23 mins: That Tottenham goal will be a moment of controversy after the match.

It seemed as though the VAR wanted to stick with the decision on the field as the replay wasn’t clear and obvious.

There was a push from Van de Ven but probably not enough to cause a foul.

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

17:50 , Mike Jones

19 mins: Disallowed!

Tottenham have the ball in the back of the net. The corner is swung into the box and Cristian Romero gets clear of Kyle Walker-Peters and whips a header into the net.

The referee has ruled the goal out on the pitch as Micky van de Ven pushed Walker-Peters to the ground.

VAR took a look at the replay and agrees with the on-field decision.

Thomas Frank is not happy about that.

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

17:48 , Mike Jones

18 mins: West Ham have looked dangerous from the wide areas. They swing another cross into the box, this time from the left, but again can’t find the head of one of their attackers.

Tottenham have looked shaky defending those attacks though. It’s certainly an area the Hammers can continue to probe.

At the other end of the pitch Xavi Simons decides to cut inside and shoot and a deflection off Max Kilman brings Spurs a corner.

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

17:45 , Mike Jones

15 mins: Chance!

Bowen drives forward and slides a superb pass into the Tottenham box.

Matheus Fernandes collects the ball and nudges it to Lucas Paqueta.

He takes a touch and shoots, guiding his effort just wide of the far post!

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

17:44 , Mike Jones

12 mins: Pape Sarr looks to bring the ball down the inside right channel but is stopped in his tracks by El Hadji Malick Diouf.

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

Decent start from the hosts.

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

17:33 , Mike Jones

He carries it down the wing but runs out of play drawing some cheers from the home fans.

Kick off! West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

17:30 , Mike Jones

Tottenham get the ball rolling and boot it long over to the left.

A bit of aerial pinball sees the ball bounce out of play for a throw in.

West Ham vs Tottenham

17:25 , Mike Jones

The players make their way out onto the pitch at the London Stadium.

This should be a cracking affair and West Ham will know they need to be disciplined to keep Spurs at bay.

If they can take anything out of the game it’ll be a big plus and keep them on track to improve.

For Tottenham, they’ve got their sights on the three points and nothing less.

Let’s see how it all plays out, kick off is up next...

Expect goals this afternoon

17:20 , Mike Jones

Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro has played 86 Premier League games but never been involved in a 0-0 draw, an all-time record without featuring in one.

It’s the second-longest start to a Premier League career without a 0-0, with only Mikael Silvestre going more games from his debut without a goalless one (134 matches before featuring in Man Utd 0-0 Arsenal in September 2003).

Leading from the front

17:15 , Mike Jones

Jarrod Bowen has had a hand in nine Premier League goals in his last nine appearances (6 goals, 3 assists).

Since his first appearance under Graham Potter in early February, only Mohamed Salah (15) has scored and assisted more goals than Bowen (13) in the Premier League.

(Mike Egerton/PA Wire)

Two wins from two?

17:10 , Mike Jones

Following a 2-0 win away at Man City, Thomas Frank is looking to become just the third Spurs manager to win his first two away top-flight matches in charge of the club, along with Ossie Ardiles in 1993-94 and Tim Sherwood in 2013-14.

West Ham's super sub

17:05 , Mike Jones

In his first Premier League appearance since January, Crysencio Summerville came on as an 82nd minute substitute and assisted a goal and won a penalty for West Ham in their 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

He was the first player in Premier League history to be subbed on that late in a game and achieve that.

Daniel Levy’s departure has not impacted my role at Tottenham, Thomas Frank says

17:00 , Mike Jones

Thomas Frank says it is “business as usual” at Tottenham after Daniel Levy’s surprise exit, but can already feel the backing of the club’s majority owners.

Levy was invited to step down from his role as Spurs chairman last Thursday in an unexpected move by ENIC, which is owned and run by the Lewis family trust.

Majority shareholders ENIC had largely allowed Levy to be the key decision-maker and figurehead of the Premier League club since 2001, but the Lewis family has moved on the 63-year-old in an attempt to deliver “more wins, more often” at Tottenham.

Will Spurs improve their recent record?

16:55 , Mike Jones

Tottenham Hotspur have lost 17 of their last 23 Premier League matches that haven’t been against newly promoted sides (won three, drawn three).

But, two of their last four league wins against non-promoted sides came away at the Etihad against Manchester City in November 2024 and August 2025.

A lacklustre record for Spurs

16:45 , Mike Jones

Spurs have lost 10 of their last 16 London derbies in the Premier League (three wins, three draws).

They’ve kept just one clean sheet in their last 21 derby matches in the league.

That being a 2-0 away win at Thomas Frank’s Brentford in February 2025.

Back-to-back for the Irons?

16:40 , Mike Jones

West Ham lost their first two Premier League games of the 2025-26 season but beat Nottingham Forest 3-0.

They’ve only won consecutive matches once since David Moyes departed the club, doing so in February 2025.

A draw on the cards?

16:35 , Mike Jones

Each of the last three Premier League meetings between West Ham and Spurs at the London Stadium have ended as 1-1 draws.

Spurs are winless in five league visits (three draws, two defeats) since a 3-2 win in November 2019.

West Ham have won just one of their last seven Premier League matches against Tottenham Hotspur (three draws, three defeats).

That win was a 2-1 away victory in December 2023.

The costly mistake behind Daniel Levy’s fall at Tottenham Hotspur

16:25 , Miguel Delaney

In an email to Tottenham Hotspur staff, where new chief executive Vinai Venkatesham acknowledged that Daniel Levy’s departure would come as “a shock to all of you”, while insisting that “it is very much business as usual”. Such sentiments were undercut by the very fact that some people were stopped in their tracks, as well as the messages from elsewhere in the club.

Spurs, it has been insisted, will no longer be so much about business. They’re going to be about “sustained sporting success”.

Frank on facing West Ham

16:10 , Mike Jones

Thomas Frank is facing West Ham for the first time as Tottenham coach and was asked for his feelings about the game.

Speaking ahead of today’s encounter he said: "Very excited, I know it means a lot for the fans. We will go there and do everything we can to of course try to win the game.

“I think we're facing a West Ham team which I think maybe didn't have the best start. I think they got a very good win against Nottingham and I think they did well. I think they've got some top players. I've known Graeme Potter for years and I've followed his fantastic work all the way from Sweden to Swansea to Brighton to Chelsea to now here.

“So big respect for him and his staff. I know it will be difficult and I know this game tomorrow will be extremely difficult because no matter if West Ham were top of the league or bottom of the league or middle of the league, this game will just make them raise their level.

“I expect an extremely difficult game, but we'll be ready for it and we're ready to attack."

Thomas Frank on Daniel Levy's Spurs exit

16:05 , Mike Jones

The Tottenham boss spoke about Daniel Levy’s exit from the club during the international break.

Thomas Frank said: "Daniel deserves massive praise. He's been here 24 years, must be one of the longest chairman that has been in the Premier League ever.

“The things he's built, the success he's been a massive part of, you can't praise that enough. I think the two big, big things is he's actually laid I would say the foundation for the future in terms of this fantastic world-class training centre and of course a world-class stadium.

“Both those two we are at a top level so we can build from there to hopefully compete with the best clubs in the future. That is Daniel."

West Ham re-sign Lukasz Fabianski — two months after letting goalkeeper go

16:00 , Harry Latham-Coyle

West Ham have re-signed goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski on a one-year deal just two months after letting the veteran shot-stopper leave the club.

The 40-year-old Fabianski has signed new terms in east London having departed at the expiry of his contract at the end of the 2024/25 Premier League season.

The Polish goalkeeper’s speedy return comes after the departure of third-choice Wes Foderingham to Cyprus side Aris Limassol on Tuesday, a move that left Graham Potter with only two senior goalkeepers in his squad.

West Ham eyeing up three points

15:54 , Mike Jones

Potter wants to continue West Ham’s win streak and build some momentum but the manager knows that isn’t easy in the Premier League.

“I think the motivation is clear for us. We know how important this game is for the club and the fans, so we’re going to go out there and do the best we can to win,” he said.

“There isn’t a big sample to look at from the season so far. We’ve played three Premier League games, and in this league you know that every match is going to be a challenge.

“I’ve played against Thomas’ [Frank] teams a lot over the years, and there’ll be some things there like there was previously. He’s a very well-respected coach, and it’s going to be a tough game, but it’s one we’re looking forward to.

“We want to carry on the feeling of positivity we had after Forest, do our best, and try to come away with all three points.”

Hammers building momentum?

15:50 , Mike Jones

Having averaged 3.4 shots on target per game across their first 20 Premier League matches under Graham Potter, West Ham had eight in their 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest, their most in a league game under him.

Potter on reaction to Forest win

15:48 , Mike Jones

Graham Potter also explained his thoughts on West Ham’s win over Forest and how his players did well.

He said: “There were lots of things that contributed to the result at Forest. Mateus Fernandes came into the team just after we’d signed him, and he gave us an extra dimension, as did Crysencio Summerville, who did really well after coming off the bench.

“Playing against a team in a different moment can also help, but there was a determination from the players that was born from the frustration, disappointment and anger after the first two games.

“We knew we needed to do something about that, and that’s why after the match I said I was delighted for them. We had had to suffer, which isn’t pleasant, but the players did it together, and they did it well.”

(Mike Egerton/PA Wire)

Can West Ham build on previous win?

15:42 , Mike Jones

Graham Potter hopes he can help turn the fortunes of West Ham around following a win before the international break.

“About half of the team went away, so we were left with a decent number. We’ve trained well and used the time well, and then it’s been nice to see the other players again as they’ve come back in,” Potter said.

“As always, we kept up with the action we could, and watched the highlights and different things. Niclas [Füllkrug] is the only one who has picked up a slight issue, so things are good in that respect.

“So far we’ve prepared as well as we can for the weekend, as some of the players continue to recover from their games and travel, but by Saturday, we’ll be ready for sure.”

West Ham ease pressure on Graham Potter with stunning late win at Nottingham Forest

15:36 , Mike Jones

West Ham eased the pressure on Graham Potter as three late goals saw them move off the foot of the Premier League following an extraordinary 3-0 victory at Nottingham Forest.

Potter’s position as Hammers head coach has been under increasing scrutiny after his side were thrashed by Sunderland and Chelsea in the league and knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Wolves.

Tottenham's early team news

Kota Takai, Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison and Radu Dragusin remain out of action.

West Ham's early team news

15:24 , Mike Jones

West Ham have reinforcements in goal after Lukasz Fabianski re-signed with the club, although Mads Hermansen is likely to retain his place in goal despite a tricky start to the season, and Brighton loanee Igor Julio could be in line for an appearance.

Niclas Fullkrug however is likely to miss out after picking up a calf strain on international duty, joining Luis Guilherme on the sidelines.

West Ham vs Tottenham

15:00 , Mike Jones

The Premier League returns this weekend with West Ham hosting Tottenham after a period of upheaval for both clubs.

Graham Potter’s Hammers endured a dismal start to the season - including a 5-1 thrashing by Chelsea - but will be hoping to have picked up where they left off, after beating Nottingham Forest 3-0 in their last game before the international break.

Spurs meanwhile started more promisingly but then lost 1-0 at home to Bournemouth and will be under pressure to bounce back, particularly at the home of their bitter rivals.

This game will likely have some extra spice to it as Mohammed Kudus returns to London Stadium after his summer transfer, with the manner of his exit and statement that he “only wanted Spurs” unlikely to have made him many friends among the West Ham faithful.
