West Ham vs Tottenham LIVE: Premier League result, latest updates and reaction after London derby win

West Ham vs Tottenham - LIVE

A new era is officially underway for Tottenham as they returned to Premier League action against London rivals West Ham. Saturday evening’s game marked the first fixture for Spurs since the surprise departure of Daniel Levy as executive chairman.

In the stands at the London Stadium was members of the Lewis family and they will have been happy to oversee a return to winning ways on the pitch following the 1-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth before the international break. Second half goals from Pape Matar Sarr, Lucas Bergvall and Micky van de Ven ensured Spurs got back on track and took home the London derby spoils.

Graham Potter, meanwhile, has failed to build West Ham’s impressive 3-0 win away at Nottingham Forest last time out which halted their disastrous start to the season. Defeat leaves the Hammers - who also had Tomas Soucek sent-off - in the relegation zone having shipped 11 goals in four games. Follow all the back from the London derby with Standard Sport’s LIVE blog below, featuring expert analysis from Matt Verri at the ground!

18:38 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Matt Verri at the London Stadium

18:37 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Well that felt inevitable. Corners were the only threat from Spurs in the first half and within two minutes after the break one has brought the opening goal. Sarr just stood there and the back post and West Ham decided not to bother marking him.

Maddison verdict

18:31 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

James Maddison has delivered a scathing verdict on Cristian Romero’s disallowed goal during Tottenham’s London derby against West Ham.

Spurs captain Romero thought he had broken the deadlock in the 18th minute at the London Stadium as he headed Mohammed Kudus’ corner into the back of the net.

However, the central defender’s celebrations were cut short as referee Jarred Gillett blew his whistle having spotted a foul in the box.

A message from the Premier League match centre reads: “The referee’s call of no goal was checked and confirmed by VAR – with it deemed that van de Ven pushed Walker-Peters in the back and impacted his ability to play the ball.”

Eight touches for Tel in that first half. Kudus had 28, Simons 35. Frank's decision to start Tel up front hasn't really worked, imagine we'll be seeing at least one of Richarlison or Kolo Muani before long.

HALF-TIME

18:24 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

Stalemate at the break, biggest talking point was Cristian Romero’s goal that was ruled out.

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

18:08 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

38 min: Short corner routine by Spurs this time, Porro puts in a fine cross which Sarr heads onto Kilman and over the bar.

West Ham manage to deal with the resulting corner before Bowen wins a free-kick off Bergvall.

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

18:06 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

35 min: Succession of corners for Tottenham but West Ham defend them well.

Maddison reaction

18:05 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

James Maddison clearly doesn’t agree with the disallowed goal.

Matt Verri at the London Stadium

18:02 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Better spell this for Spurs. Simons getting on the ball more and more and it's making a difference. Not quite on the same wavelength as his team-mates yet, which is to be expected, but his class is obvious.

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

18:01 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

30 min: Spurs build down the left as Bergvall makes a fine overlapping run and picks out Simons who can’t work space for a shot and squeezes the ball out to Porro who overhits a cross.

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

18:00 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

29 min: Romero slices through the West Ham defensive line with a fine pass, the ball is then played to Simons who plays a blind pass out to his left where no Spurs player was.

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

17:56 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

25 min: Shake of the head from Tel as he attempts to carry on, feels like his evening will be cut short very soon.

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

17:55 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

24 min: Concern for Mathys Tel as he is down injured. He beats the turf in frustration.

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

17:54 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

23 min: Very harsh on Tottenham regarding the disallowed goal, Micky van de ven is the culprit but he barely touched Kyle Walker-Peters.

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

17:52 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

22 min: Short corner routine from West Ham as Ward-Prowse picks out Soucek at the back post, but the midfielder can only steer his header into the arms of Vicario.

Matt Verri at the London Stadium

17:50 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Burst of pace there from Thomas Frank, who jogs over to the fourth official to ask why that goal has been chalked off.

Walker-Peters was the man who went down as he challenged with Romero. Not a huge amount in it that I can see but VAR confirms that decision. No goal.

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

17:49 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

18 min: GOAA....NOOOO!

Romero thinks he has put Tottenham ahead from the corner but his celebrations are cut short.

VAR will check this.

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

17:48 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

17 min: First sighting of goal for Xavi Simons in a Tottenham shirt as he cuts inside from the left and lets fly. Shot looked to be heading wide by Kilman headed it behind for a corner.

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

17:47 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

16 min: Diouf showcasing his excellent crossing delivery as he puts a great ball into the box but neither Paqueta, Bowen or Fernandes can get a telling touch.

Matt Verri at the London Stadium

17:45 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

That's going the home fans going again. Brilliant West Ham move, Bowen picking out a lovely pass inside to Fernandes and Paqueta should really have finished from close range.

Spurs haven't got going at all.

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

17:45 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

14 min: CHANCE!

West Ham work the ball down the right, Fernandes plays in Paqueta who swivels in the box but pulls his effort wide of the post.

Seems the Brazilian was caught in two minds as he had Summerville free in space to his left.

Matt Verri at the London Stadium

17:43 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Not exactly a thrilling start at the London Stadium. The desire to boo Mohammed Kudus' every touch might be the only thing keeping people awake.

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

17:43 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

12 min: Poor pass from Palhinha as he clips the ball out of play. Think he was looking for the run of Tel but failed to pick out the Spurs lone striker.

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

17:39 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

8 min: You don’t need reminding whenever Kudus is on the ball. He is roundly booed by the West Ham fans and cheered every time an action fails.

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

17:37 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

6 min: Decent play from West Ham down the left as Diouf swings in a cross which just evades the reach of Bowen. The attack eventually fizzles out as Paqueta overhits a cross.

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

17:35 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

5 min: A first look at the new-look Tottenham hierarchy as the Sky Sports cameras pan to the director’s box at the London Stadium.

West Ham 0-0 Tottenham

17:32 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Xavi Simons set to pick up creative burden

16:45 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

The Tottenham rollercoaster has worked to Thomas Frank’s benefit over the past fortnight, writes Matt Verri.

In ordinary circumstances, the Spurs boss would have sat down for his press conference on Friday afternoon and been asked about an incredibly poor performance from his side against Bournemouth before the international break.

There would have been talk about bouncing back, learning lessons, and needing a firm response this evening for the trip to West Ham. How a London derby was the perfect opportunity to get things back on track.

At Spurs, though, the news cycle moves quickly and that Bournemouth defeat feels a distant memory. Since then, the club have signed Randal Kolo Muani on Deadline Day, left Mathys Tel out of their Champions League squad, and most notably of all, embarked on a self-declared new era by removing Daniel Levy.

With Xavi Simons making his debut at the London Stadium and Kolo Muani also in the squad, Spurs have the chance to make a fresh start on the pitch too.

Tough afternoon for those tasked with doing predicted lineups. Looks to be Xavi Simons on the left, with Lucas Bergvall coming in at No10.

Biggest shock is that Mathys Tel is seemingly leading the line for Spurs - reminder that he's been left out of their squad for the league phase of the Champions League.

When the Sky Sports cameras pan to the directors' box at the London Stadium, there will be a noticeable change.

Daniel Levy, a near-permanent presence at Tottenham matches over the past 25 years, will not be in attendance.

The decision of the Spurs ownership to remove him as the club's executive chairman over the international break has ushered in a new era.

It is the younger generations of the Lewis family who were responsible for Levy's departure and they are expected to be an increasingly visible force at Spurs in the weeks ahead.

Half and half scarves BANNED

16:00 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Spurs make the short trip to east London this weekend the latest renewnal of one of English football’s fierest rivalries.

And fans have been warned not to wear “items illustrating the colours/crests of both clubs”. Any items deemed to be breaching the ruled will be binned by security staff.

West Ham have confirmed the re-signing of 40-year-old goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

Fabianski left West Ham over the summer after seven years and 215 appearances for the Hammers.

But West Ham were in the market for a new goalkeeper after Wes Foderingham left to join Cypriot club Aris Limassol on a permanent deal.

Fabianski has now sealed a shock return to West Ham, where he will provide cover for Alphonse Areola and Mads Hermansen.

New Tottenham era

15:40 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

A new era at Tottenham will begin today with a clear statement in the stands from the club's ownership, writes Matt Verri.

Spurs travel to face West Ham this evening and Daniel Levy's absence will be noticeable, with the trip to the London Stadium the first match since his departure as executive chairman.

While Levy will of course not be in attendance, members of the Lewis family will be there in a visible sign of the changing leadership at Spurs.

Vivienne Lewis, the daughter of Joe Lewis, was alongside Levy for the opening match of the season against Burnley and is set to remain a regular presence.

Score prediction

Spurs may have lost their last game, against an impressive Bournemouth side, but have shown twice already this season that they can punish teams who are not firing on all cylinders, and West Ham can certainly be filed under that category.

It will be a feisty atmosphere at the London Stadium, and one where you would expect the first goal to prove crucial.
