West Ham vs Man City simulated in FIFA 19 ahead of first Premier League fixture

Reigning Premier League champions Manchester City will hope to get their 2019/20 season off to a strong start, as they take on West Ham at the London Stadium in their opening fixture.

With the transfer window finally closing on Thursday, it's fair to say that City have had a calm and considered summer transfer window, signing defensive midfielder Rodri, left-back Angelino, right-back Joao Cancelo and goalkeeper Scott Carson, while the likes of Fabian Delph, Danilo, Douglas Luiz and Vincent Kompany have all departed.

Leroy Sane's anterior cruciate ligament injury will be a blow to City's ambitions, but with Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus all capable of playing in wide attacking positions, they should have the depth to cope.

So, who will make it into Guardiola's first XI against West Ham? And, what will the final score be?

We used FIFA 19 to predict the outcome of Saturday's fixture.

West Ham vs Man City on FIFA 19

To set up this simulation, we used kick-off mode but didn't select a team to control; we then selected the teams and watched the match play out by itself, to give us a unique prediction.

The AI difficulty was set to world class, with the line-up updated with the latest transfers, injuries and suspensions. Obviously, as we're still using FIFA 19 for the time being, the kits aren't updated, so please use your imagination.

We predict that West Ham will set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with the line-up as follows: Fabianski, Fredericks, Diop, Balbuena, Cresswell; Wilshere, Rice; Fornals, Lanzini, Anderson; Haller

We predict that Man City will set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Ederson; Walker, Stones, Laporte, Zinchenko; Rodri, De Bruyne, David Silva; Bernardo Silva, Sterling, Aguero.

The match started in exactly the way you would expect, with City dominating possession, passing through midfield and probing West Ham very patiently.

But, the Hammers stood firm, as they dropped back into their own half and compressed the space in which City could play.

In the second half, City started in the same fashion, but with a lot higher tempo, which unsettled the home side and led to the opening goal.

In the 51st minute, Bernardo Silva cut in from the right hand side and played a lovely through ball into the path of David Silva, who stroked the ball into the far corner to make it 1-0 to City.

It didn't take long for City to double their lead, with Kevin De Bruyne smashing the ball past Fabianski from inside the box on the 62nd minute, after being played in by Sergio Aguero.

This goal sparked Manuel Pellegrini's side to life, as they completely changed their gameplan, pushing higher up the pitch and trying to take control of the game.

But, they would actually get their reward from a breakaway.

Pablo Fornals found Sebastian Haller in the 73rd minute, after the new signing saw space in behind John Stones, who ran onto the ball and finished expertly past Ederson to level the score.

West Ham very nearly got an equaliser in the final five minutes, with Haller rising highest from a corner, but his header hit the post and went wide.

But, City held on and secured their first three points of the season.

Full-time score: West Ham 1-2 Man City

Here are the full-time match stats.

(EA SPORTS FIFA)

As you can see, City dominated the game in all areas.

Bernardo Silva was City's best player, contributing an assist and looking dangerous throughout.

(EA SPORTS FIFA)

Ederson was City's worst rated player, who conceded a goal.

FIFA 19's simulation predicts that City will dominate against West Ham but it will actually be a tight scoreline, with the Hammers getting on the scoresheet, but Guardiola's side will eventually get the win.
