West Ham vs Crystal Palace: Players unite against racism at London Stadium friendly

West Ham and Crystal Palace players united against racism at London Stadium today with both sets of players wearing shirts which read: 'We Stand Together.'

With the Premier League season restarting next week, West Ham and Palace took the opportunity to get valuable minutes for their players with a friendly in east London on Saturday.

Before the game, both sets of players posed for a group photo wearing 'We Stand Together' t-shirts to send a powerful anti-racism message in the wake of worldwide protests.

The death of American citizen George Floyd, after a police officer knelt on his neck for at least eight minutes, sparked protests in the US which have since gone global, with the Black Lives Matter movement a key force in calling for change across the world.

Sports stars across the world have since joined in the protests, while the Premier League has confirmed that players will have their names replaced by 'Black Lives Matter' in the opening round of fixtures next week.

In addition, the top-flight has said it will support players who 'take a knee' in symbolic protest before or during matches.

On Saturday, West Ham tweeted a picture of the players grouped on the pitch with the message: "We Stand Together.

"West Ham United and Crystal Palace make a stand against racism ahead of our friendly at London Stadium today."
