It’s all got a little bit worse for Fulham, 3-0 down to Birmingham and now a man down after James Husband picked up two yellow cards in quick succession. At Rotherham, they have one goal back with a stunning Brandon Barker strike but it isn’t going to change much – Ipswich are 4-1 up.

FA Cup
Most of the first round ties are back in business for the second half too. The 2013 winners, Wigan, looks as if they are heading out at the first hurdle, 3-0 down at Bury. The only other side with a three-goal advantage are Leyton Orient, 4-1 clear against non-league Staines, Dean Cox with two of them.
Premier League
Referees’ whistles peeeeep around the country as the top flight gets back under way.
Scottish Premiership
With St Johnstone and Aberdeen both drawing, Hearts have the chance to consolidate second in the table and look in good shape to do so with a 2-0 lead against Hamilton, Buaben and Djoum getting the goals.
“Thank you for your concern Charles Antaki,” sarcies Simon McMahon. “The world-famous Dundee United FC, Scottish League Champions 1982-83, Scottish Cup winners 1994, 2010, Scottish League Cup winners 1979, 1980, UEFA Cup finalists 1987, are in rude health. Financially at least, as the last three years have seen us sell all our best players and tumble down the league as a result. Still, who cares about a winning team, as long as the bank manager’s happy, eh?”
La Liga
Dani Parejo has struck for Valencia moments before the half-time whistle to hand the visitors a 2-1 lead against Celta Vigo.
Premier League half-time scores
Not a thrilling day so far with Upton Park the only ground to see some goals, where it is West Ham 1-1 Everton. For all the half-time scores in the FA Cup, Championship and updates across Europe, click here.

Updated
GOAL! West Ham 1-1 Everton (Lukaku)
A couple of minutes before half-time and Lukaku has pulled Everton level at Upton Park, gathering a throughball from Deulofeu and holding off his man to finish.
“Trying to work out which inconsistent winger is the more annoying,” ponders Philip Podolsky. “Victor ‘runs quicker than he thinks’ Moses or Gerard ‘probably as good as he thinks he is, and I’m not just saying this cause he’s from Barcelona, but still maddeningly egotistical and inconsistent’ Deulofeu. Would appreciate input, thanks.”
Moses, every time. JUST RUN AND CROSS. Stop stopping.

FA Cup
Barwell, the smallest town represented in the FA Cup, are 1-0 down to Welling United. In another all-non-league tie Grimsby are beating St Albans 1-0, and how about this: Jefferson Louis’s penalty and now a Bradley Hudson-Odoi goal have swung National South League’s Wealdstone into a 2-1 lead against the League One side Colchester.
Championship
Fulham are having a rough time of it at the Cottage this afternoon, a Paul Caddis penalty and then a Jon Toral strike making it 3-0 to Birmingham. Charlton, where fans protested against the club’s owner before the game, lead Sheffield Wednesday 1-0, MK Dons have pulled one back for 2-1 at Brighton, and Blackburn are down 1-0 at home to Brentford.
@lawrenceostlere I'm watching Sir Ken and Dame Judi in The Winter's Tale. The plot is so far-fetched I expect Jamie Vardy any minute now.

Jonathan Douglas has added to Brett Pitmann’s early strike at Rotherham to put Ipswich clear by the same score, while Stephen Gleeson’s goal at Craven Cottage gives Birmingham the advantage against Fulham.
Bundesliga
Things are getting real ugly for Stuttgart: Thomas Muller makes it 4-0 before half-time and Alexander Zorniger’s side have another 45 minutes to endure. If they are glass-half-full kind of people, they at least get to see perhaps the best team in Europe in full flight.
FA Cup
Darren Carter has given Forest Green, top of the National League South, a sniff of an upset against Wimbledon with an early goal, while Jacob Murphy has struck for Coventry to pull them level with Northampton, 1-1.
FA Cup
The 2008 winners, Portsmouth, might not be about to repeat the feat but they do have a 1-0 advantage in their first round match against Macclesfield, Adam McGurk doing the damage. League Two Stevenage lead League One high-flyers Gillingham 1-0 through the midfielder Steven Schumacher.

FA Cup
Andy Williams has given Doncaster a 1-0 lead after three minutes against National League North’s Stalybridge Celtic.
“Bit worried about Dundee United,” emails Charles Antaki. “For the first time ever on an MBM, not lauded by Simon McMahon as the World-famous, or even the Mighty. Are they not well?”

Alex Neil makes three changes as Norwich seek to stop the rot against unchanged Swansea.

Bayern Munich are doing what they do at home, and are a couple of goals to the good after half an hour courtesy of Arjen Robben and Douglas Costa. It could be a long afternoon for Stuttgart. The only other goal so far is in Leverkusen, who are the only side to have visited Bayern and this season and conceded less than four goals incidentally (they lost 3-0). They are 1-0 down to Cologne after Dominik Maroh’s strike.
Rob Elliot after Newcastle beat Bournemouth 1-0:
“We know they start quick, we didn’t play well but we managed to hold on. You’re just happy to help as a goalkeeper it was a well-earned victory in terms of our hard work but performance-wise, we need to improve.”

“Hi Lawrence,” emails James Maddison. “Pedant alert! Sam Allardyce takes the Black Cats no further than the SoL. We generally score 2 at home against the Saints, vs conceding 8 away last season. That was a shit away day. At least Vergini has been shipped out after scoring the best own goal of the season last year. YouTube it for a laugh.”
Simon McMahon emails with a look ahead to the day’s action in Scotland:
“Afternoon Lawrence. No cup action in Scotland today, but plenty of interesting league matches, not least game of the day at Pittodrie where Dundee United face Aberdeen. An encouraging win last week against Ross County was followed by a midweek cup defeat at Hibs, so United manager Mixu ‘The Mighty Finn’ Paatelainen will be looking for a reaction today. Other games include Partick at Dundee, with United moving off the bottom if they win and Thistle lose, Hearts v Hamilton and St. Johnstone v Kilmarnock. In the Scottish Championship it’s Raith Rovers v Falkirk and St Mirren v Hibs.”
Charlton Athletic fans have gathered outside The Valley before today’s game against Sheffield Wednesday to protest against the club’s owner, Roland Duchatelet:
"Where were you when we we were good," the latest chant. pic.twitter.com/QrxxqgVTfc

Full-time: Bournemouth 0-1 Newcastle
Bournemouth pushed and pushed for an equaliser but couldn’t find one, and Eddie Howe’s side drop into the relegation zone after Newcastle’s first away win of the season. You can get the details here from Barry Glendenning.
Updated
Full-time: Huddersfield 0-3 Leeds
Leeds close out their Yorkshire derby victory to the soundtrack of bouncing, clapping fans in the corner of the ground. Scott Wootton was lucky not to be sent off but Leeds took advantage and Alex Mowatt rounded off the result with a stunning drive from range. Their first back-to-back wins since March send Leeds 14th in the Championship, for now at least. Huddersfield could drop down to 21st by the end of the day.
The day so far
Leeds appear to be on the up and up in the Championship all of a sudden. After beating Cardiff on Tuesday Steve Evans’ side are about to close out a thumping of their Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield. Two goals in two added-time minutes at the end of the first half by Mirco Antenucci and Chris Wood transformed the match and they have added a third in the second half to kill the game, Alex Mowatt doing the damage.
On the south coast, Bournemouth are struggling to find a way back into the game in their crucial clash with Newcastle, after Ayoze Perez’s first-half finish squirmed under Federici’s hand when perhaps it shouldn’t have. You can follow the climax of that one here.
Updated
Preamble
Boos rang round Old Trafford on Tuesday night as Manchester United fans made their most comprehensive statement of disapproval of the Louis van Gaal era so far. The following evening Stamford Bridge rose as one for an impromptu ovation amid a booming chorus “José Mourinho, José Mourinho”. Despite the polar atmospheres it is surely the latter manager who faces greater pressure to find results but the spotlight, momentarily dimmed by both team’s Champions League wins, will be back on full glare should either lose in the Premier League this afternoon. Manchester United host West Brom, against whom David Moyes’s tenure began to swiftly unravel, while Chelsea travel to the Britannia to face Stoke later in the day.
Elsewhere, form’s Watford travel to form’s Leicester, Southampton visit Sam Allardyce’s chastened Black Cats while their chasteners, Everton, head to Upton Park for the final time. If Watford and Leicester are safely housed in form then Norwich and Swansea are out in swirling rain, leaves blowing in their face and brolly inside-out. Both teams have managed only one win in their last eight and meet at Carrow Road (where I once scored a brilliant penalty despite Football Weekly’s Jaunty Ian McCourt’s attempts to take it from me) with sanctuary from their struggles at stake.
Hull v Middlesbrough is the Championship’s headline act, two in the leading quintet of clubs on 30 or 31 points. Brighton’s unbeaten record faces MK Dons while Bristol City travel to Bolton in a significant skirmish at the bottom of the table.
The FA Cup first round got off to an entertaining start and powers on today with a long firing line of Football League teams trying to avoid the non-league bullet. The lowest ranked club in the first round is Northwich Victoria, top of the Evo-Stick First Division North, the eighth tier of the English football pyramid. If you are unfamiliar with it, the Evo-Stick First Division North is the sort of league where one team has played 17 games so far this season and another has played 12. Northwich are joint-233rd in English football and face Boreham Wood, 20th in the National League, for a place in the second round.
There are also seven fixtures in the Bundesliga this afternoon (14:30 GMT) and one La Liga tie: Celta Vigo v Valencia (15:00 GMT). With Dortmund’s joust with Schalke tomorrow, Bayern Munich have the chance to go eight points clear at the top of the table with a win at the Allianz Arena today. They are up 32-3 after seven games at home this season and have scored five goals on five occasions already. Next off the conveyer belt to be parcelled up and booted out is Stuttgart.
