West Ham confirmed their first major transfer signing of the summer on Thursday afternoon with the announcement of Alphonse Areola on a season long-loan from Paris Saint-Germain.
After a long wait for a big name arrival, it seems the Hammers transfer business is up and running and reports from Spain indicate a second signing could be on the horizon.
Barcelona striker Martin Braithwaite has been rumoured to be of interest for the Hammers for some time and according to a report from Spain West Ham have lodged a bid for the Dane.
Spanish website Sport.Es have claimed that a £12.75 million bid from West Ham has been accepted by Barcelona, but personal terms between Braithwaite and the Hammers are yet to be agreed upon.
The striker helped Denmark to a semi-final spot at Euro 2020 but since the arrival of Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay his spot in the Barcelona squad is under pressure.
Furthermore, Braithwaite has seen his number nine shirt was taken away from him and handed to new signing Depay, a strong indication he is surplus to requirements at the Camp Nou.
However, ESPN's Spanish football reporter Sam Marsden has claimed that a deal between Barcelona and West Ham has yet to be agreed upon.
What is clear is that West Ham's transfer business is finally underway and with Areola confirmed the Hammers can move onto targeting the other areas of their squad that need improving with the attack a known priority for David Moyes.
