West Ham to issue indefinite bans after alleged racist abuse during Arsenal clash

West Ham United have sent a response to a video circulating on social media of fans using alleged racist language during the 2-0 loss to Arsenal on Wednesday night.

The Gunners dominated the Emirates Stadium clash and David Moyes' side delivered a strong first half defensive display, with centre-half Craig Dawson showcasing his impressive reading of the game to deny the hosts on multiple occasions.

Brazilian youngster Gabriel Martinelli eventually broke the deadlock three minutes after the break before Hale End academy graduate Emile Smith Rowe wrapped up the game in the final minutes, sliding the ball past a helpless Lukasz Fabianski.

However, the match was marred by an incident in the away end as a Hammers supporter took to Twitter after the game to bring the club's attention to two West Ham fans, claiming that they had used racist language against a number of Arsenal players.

West Ham have since released a statement condemning the fans and reiterated that such behaviour is unacceptable, confirming that they would investigate the issue.

The club statement said: “West Ham United is appalled by the contents of this video and condemn the behaviour of the individuals involved.

"The Club takes incidents of this nature extremely seriously and we are liaising with the relevant authorities to identify the individuals.

"We continue to be unequivocal in our stance - we have a zero-tolerance approach to any form of discrimination.

"Any individuals identified will be issued with an indefinite ban from the club.

“Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the football club and we do not welcome any individuals who do not share those values."
