West Ham to do "whatever it takes" to sign Jesse Lingard as Man Utd set asking price

West Ham will do "whatever it takes" to sign Jesse Lingard from Manchester United this summer.

The midfielder struggled for opportunities at Old Trafford and was loan out to the Hammers in January.

Lingard has rediscovered his best form at the London Stadium but there is no agreement over a permanent deal.

The Hammers are continuing their push for the top four as we enter the business end of the season.

Lingard has become integral to David Moyes and the London club are ready to pull out all the stops to secure the midfielder's services.

"We will do whatever it takes to sign him," a senior West Ham source told Sky Sports. "He's been outstanding for us."

United value their academy graduate at £30m.

Lingard grabbed a brace on his debut during a 3-1 win at Aston Villa.

Overall he has scored six times in eight league outings which includes an excellent solo goal in Monday night's win at Wolves.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said upon his loan departure that he was preparing for Lingard's return next season.

The 28-year-old, who has earned an England recall, fell down the pecking order and may seek assurances over his status in the group.

Gary Neville believes Lingard will have to accept a squad role if he wants a future with United.

He said: "If Jesse wants to play, and you can see he does want to play, then he needs to leave, because he's not going to play every single week for a Manchester United team that's competing for second or first place in the league.

"But if he's willing to go back there and compete and be the player that Dan James has been for the last few weeks, in and out, then there's no doubt he can play for Manchester United."
