West Ham to decide Samir Nasri future this week amid question marks over his fitness

Samir Nasri will discover this week whether West Ham want to keep him at the London Stadium.

The 31-year-old signed a six-month contract when he joined West Ham on a free transfer in January but the Hammers have an option to extend his deal next season.

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini will speak to Nasri about his future before the final game of the season away at Watford on Sunday.

Nasri has made just six appearances for West Ham since he joined and there are still some question marks over his fitness.

The former Arsenal midfielder has not played for seven weeks because of a calf problem and he was not in the West Ham squad for Saturday’s 3-0 win over Southampton, despite Pellegrini saying last week that he is fit again.

Nasri has not featured for West Ham since their 4-3 win against Huddersfield on March 16 and he aggravated his calf injury during the half-time warm-up at Chelsea last month.

Having been without a club for a year since leaving Turkish club Antalyaspor after serving an 18-month doping ban, West Ham have wanted to assess his fitness.

Meanwhile, Jack Wilshere will continue training throughout the summer to ensure he is in the best shape possible next season.

The midfielder is fit again after his latest ankle injury which disrupted his first season at West Ham. He said: “It will be a summer of work for me. I have worked so hard to get to this level and I want to maintain that, getting back to pre-season where I have left off. I do not want to lose my fitness.”
