West Ham star Michail Antonio scores second brilliant goal for Jamaica

West Ham United forward Michail Antonio scored a stunning goal during a World Cup Qualifier draw with the United States on Tuesday evening.

The 31-year-old, who opened his account during Friday’s draw with El Salvador, scored his second goal in three international appearances to cancel out Timothy Weah’s opener.

Like his goal in San Salvador on Friday evening, his strike against the US in the Jamaican capital spoke of a forward playing with supreme confidence.

Picking the ball up centrally from just inside the opposition half, Antonio managed to turn into space, evade his marker with a drop of the shoulder and unleash a thunderous shot from around 25 yards out.

Manchester City’s Zack Steffen could do little about it as the ball sailed past him into the top corner and the result meant Canada were able to leapfrog the United States and reach the top of the CONCACAF standings.

Jamaica, meanwhile, remain some way off in sixth but Antonio’s start to life at international level has certainly been promising.

In total, he has now scored nine goals in 16 games across all competitions in what has been a stunning period on a personal basis for club and country.
