West Ham star Jesse Lingard targets European double with club and England

Jesse Lingard is targeting European competition with West Ham and England as the perfect end to this season.

The Hammers midfielder has been a revelation since joining on loan from Manchester United in January, with his form seeing a return to the England squad for the first time in almost two years.

In the Premier League, the Hammers are just two points off the Champions League places and on course for a European finish this season.

With the chance to take West Ham into Europe and book a place in the England squad for the Euros this summer, Lingard is aiming for the perfect end to the season after struggles at Manchester United.

"It will make a good comeback story, I’ll tell you that for a fact," Lingard told MOTDx. "The Euros would be the icing on the cake for me, and getting into Europe of course.

"It was a tough period building up to the loan I felt like I deserved to play for United but I knew in myself that I had to go on loan.

"It was a range of emotions going on, all sorts. Just to get it over the line and sign the papers, it was a great feeling.

"You’ve got to believe in yourself and your ability. It could have been easy for me to give up and fall off at the time, it was hard. You train all week leading up to the game and then you’re not picked, for any player it is hard."

Lingard has five goals and three assists in his seven games for West Ham so far and was named in England's starting XI to take on San Marino on Thursday.

West Ham are keen to keep Lingard on a more permanent basis after his storming start to under David Moyes but will face plenty of competition if Manchester United are open to selling and have not held any discussions as of yet.
