West Ham star Declan Rice 'knows his next move' amid Chelsea and Man Utd transfer speculation

Declan Rice's desire to win trophies will eventually see the West Ham star move according to former Premier League striker Dimitar Berbatov.

Rice's future has long been speculated over with Chelsea and both Manchester clubs understood to be keen on signing the England international this summer despite West Ham's stance that their star man is not for sale.

football.london understands that West Ham have never received a bid for the on-field captain and would not welcome one with the Hammers adamant the 23-year-old is part of their long term plans.

However, Berbatov believes Rice could be on his way out of the London Stadium with Liverpool and Manchester City the likely destination according to the Bulgarian.

"Players want to win trophies, and with Declan Rice you can see his ambitions are big," Berbatov told Betfair.

"Although West Ham are a big club, are they capable of fulfilling his dreams? He's been there for five years and when you know you're a good enough player and teams come after you, at one point you have to make a big decision. Unless West Ham are challenging for the Premier League title I can't see him staying.

"He's already been linked with a number of clubs and there's going to be big money involved. He will know in his mind where he wants to go, he's an ambitious guy and he wants to win titles. If Liverpool, City, Chelsea and United go in for him then I think in the current situation he's more likely to choose City or Liverpool, because it's been eight years since United last won the title and they are a long way off the others.

"But, he will have a choice to make and if he goes he has to go to a club where he is going to play."

With speculation rife surrounding Rice's future the England international gave his opinion on the matter when appearing as a guest on Gary Neville's The Overlap.

"I have always said it is that I don't want to have a career where I've not won [anything]," Rice said.

However, Rice added that transfer talk was "all just noise" to him with his focus on West Ham and the current Hammers season.

West Ham are in a strong position when it comes to Rice's future with the midfielder contracted to the club until 2024 and the Hammers holding an option to extend his deal until 2025.
