West Ham star 'breaks silence' after Manchester United transfer speculation

West Ham United defender Issa Diop has dismissed suggestions that he could be leaving the Hammers any time soon, amid Manchester United transfer speculation.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in the market for a new defender during the summer transfer window after the Reds kept just two clean sheets at home last season.

Diop, who joined West Ham from Toulouse last year, was identified as the perfect man to partner Victor Lindelof in defence after a solid debut season in the Premier League, according to various news outlets.

However, the MEN understands Harry Maguire was always Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's priority signing in the summer.

And now with the transfer window firmly closed and speculation surrounding the defender dying down, Diop has revealed that leaving West Ham never crossed his mind.

"West Ham, for me, it was not and is still not a springboard to go elsewhere," he told France Football .

"It’s the club where I want to try to become the best defender I can be, compared to my qualities.

"Whether technical, tactical, physical, I still have a large margin of progression.”
