West Ham shelve Declan Rice contract talks until the end of the season

West Ham are unlikely to re-open contract talks with Declan Rice until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old youth product, who earns about £3,000 per week, was offered a £15,000-a-week deal in October, including performance-related bonuses that could have taken the salary up to £40,000 per week. But Rice’s camp were thought to be holding out for a higher basic wage and no agreement was reached.

Rice is under contract until 2020 and West Ham have an option to extend it by a further year. A club source said: “We do not plan to do any more at this stage unless the agents come back to us in the meantime.”

Rice’s international future is also being debated, with new Republic of Ireland boss Mick McCarthy thought to be have been in the stands at the London Stadium last night.

Though Rice has played friendlies for Ireland, he also qualifies to play for England and has yet to decide which country to choose. McCarthy is believed to have held talks with Rice’s father.
