West Ham set to welcome back 60,000 fans to the London Stadium for new Premier League season

West Ham's match against Leicester City on August 23 is set to be played in front of a full house at the London Stadium.

For the first time since February 29, 2020, West Ham could be stepping out at home in front of a capacity crowd as part of the UK government's plans to lift COVID-19 restrictions according to a report in The Guardian.

The clash against Leicester will be West Ham's first home Premier League game of the season and if the roadmap back to normality progresses on schedule 60,000 Hammers supports could be present to cheer their team on.

A total of 10,000 West Ham fans were allowed into the stadium for the final match of the 2020/21 campaign with the Hammers faithful watching on as their team ran out 3-0 winners to secure Europa League football for the upcoming campaign.

David Moyes' team start the new season with a trip to St James' Park and if all goes to plan Newcastle fans will be in attendance at the match on August, 15th.

Some COVID-19 restrictions may still be in place for supporters with admittance likely to be allowed only after proof of a negative coronavirus test, proof of full vaccination or natural immunity.

These guidelines are expected to follow the current ones used for Euro 2020 matches taking place at Wembley Stadium where spectators can upload their results to the NHS App.

For England's last-16 clash with Germany, 45,000 fans were in attendance creating a raucous atmosphere as Gareth Southgate's side triumphed 2-0.

The semi-finals and final of the tournament are due to take place at Wembley between July 6 and 11 with the capacity increasing to 60,000.

Measures such as wearing a mask while moving around the stadium and upon entry and exit to the ground could remain in place as part of an extra layer of protection for those in attendance.
