West Ham set to hand Samir Nasri a deal after Jack Wilshere injury blow

Samir Nasri’s chances of earning a short-term deal at West Ham have greatly increased following the news that Jack Wilshere faces at least five more weeks on the sidelines with an ankle problem.

The former Manchester City star has been training with West Ham for several weeks and will be able to play again from January 1 when his 18-month doping ban ends.

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini knows the former French international (above) well after managing him at City, where they won the Premier League title in 2014. He looks likely to hand the 31-year-old a deal, initially to the end of the season, should he prove his fitness.

Pellegrini is keen on adding some extra attacking flair to his midfield and with Wilshere missing, possibly to the end of the season if he needs an operation, he feels Nasri would be ideal — particularly given the hectic schedule in the New Year.

West Ham face Watford on Saturday.
