West Ham set to be priced out of transfer for Premier League striker

Burnley striker Chris Wood has been linked with a move away from Turf Moor this summer with West Ham reportedly interested in the New Zealand international.

The experienced forward is on the radar of a number of clubs according to reports in The Mirror, with Aston Villa and Everton joining the Hammers in their interest in the striker.

Wood has netted 47 Premier League goals in 137 appearances for West Bromwich Albion, Leicester City and Burnley in the English top-flight since his debut in 2009.

Wood's strike rate of a goal every three matches compares favourably to current West Ham striker Michail Antonio.

The 31-year-old averages a goal every 3.5 matches with 46 in 159 matches, albeit Antonio is a fairly recent convert to the central striker's role.

With a top-six finish in the Premier League and a European campaign to look forward to, the Hammers are in need of extra squad depth and in particular another striker to lighten Antonio's load.

Wood is a dependable Premier League player and one that Burnley would not want to see leave the club.

According to LancsLive Burnley have no intention of letting their main goal threat leave the club this summer.

Reports of a fee around the £25-30million mark have appeared in the press recently, but even a bid in this region is set to be rejected given Wood's importance to the Clarets and the cost of replacing the Kiwi.

Wood bagged 12 league goals last season with no other Burnley player managing more than three, underlying his importance to the team.

Sean Dyche has in the past admitted that every player has a price but whether the price for Wood is one worth paying is open for debate.

Wood turns 30 this year and with a fee north of £30m seemingly needed to prise him out of Turf Moor, David Moyes may need to look elsewhere for goals.

West Ham have previous with Burnley when it comes to attempting to negotiating transfers.

Last summer the Hammers were interested in bringing James Tarkowski to the London Stadium only to be priced out of a move for the England international who remained at Turf Moor.
