West Ham set to appoint former captain amid double boost to David Moyes' coaching staff

Former West Ham midfielder Kevin Nolan is closing in on a return to the club to join David Moyes' coaching staff.

The former Hammers captain, who scored 31 goals in 157 games for the club between 2011 and 2015 after signing from Newcastle United, is set to link up with West Ham again to join Moyes' coaching set-up, football.london understands.

Nolan has had spells at Leyton Orient and Notts County as player-manager in recent years, but is now set to link up with the Hammers again, four-and-a-half years after he left the club by mutual consent.

It is understood that Nolan's arrival could be confirmed by the Hammers tomorrow, with the 37-year-old set to join the club ahead of the Premier League clash with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Premier League top scorer: Who leads the race for the golden boot?

West Ham are in the middle of a relegation battle, with the Hammers currently in the bottom three with 24 points from 25 games.

The Hammers have picked up five points in David Moyes' six Premier League games since replacing Manuel Pellegrini, with the only win coming in his first game against AFC Bournemouth.

Another former Hammer, Joe Cole, has recently been linked with a return to West Ham, but that has failed to materialise.

Meanwhile, it is understood that Paul Nevin is also set to join West Ham's coaching staff, with the former Brighton and Norwich City coach expected to arrive at the club alongside Nolan on Thursday.
