West Ham's record gives hope heading into Norwich fixture to close in on Moyes' survival target

West Ham head into their crunch clash with Norwich City on Saturday with an unbeaten record against the current teams below them in the table - and they face two of three of them before the end of the season.

Norwich are up first and the Hammers beat them at London Stadium 2-0 earlier this season. Watford follow next week and West Ham have beaten them this season too, 3-1 at Vicarage Road way back in August.

Then it’s Aston Villa on the final day, who West Ham drew 0-0 with earlier this season. They have already played Bournemouth twice this campaign and drew 2-2 on the south coast before thumping the Cherries 4-0 in Moyes’ first game back in east London.

Avoiding defeat to the Canaries at the weekend could go a long way to securing survival in the Premier League for another season. Beat Norwich and that will send Daniel Farke’s side packing back to the Championship after just one season in the top flight.

Moyes was asked why his side have fared well against the teams around this season but struggled to turn up for anyone else, which is why they have found themselves in the situation they are in.

“That is one of the best stats I have heard all season,” Moyes said.

“I think we have players who are capable of doing and playing very well. I think we need to get away from the West Ham team who don't always turn up all the time but we have to turn up when we need it. We need them all to turn up now.

“I think in those games we have shown we have. We have to do it more often. But we have to beat the big teams as well – that is what we want.

“We got a great result against Chelsea so we have to try and do it.

“But obviously if we can win these games and get, as we said, to the end of the season, it will be a good record and I am sure it will be one which would make sure that we stay up.”

Moyes revealed that both Robert Snodgrass and Felipe Anderson have been back in light training this week at Rush Green but neither will be considered for the trip to Norwich.

Farke could be with influential midfielder Todd Cantwell, who was an injury doubt ahead of the game.

“He trained today back with us on the pitch. His body seems to be okay so he'll be fully available for Chelsea and hope he can play some part against West Ham,” the German told the media at his own pre-match press conference.
