West Ham's major boost for Leeds United clash as Hammers given big lift

West Ham United striker Michail Antonio will be fit to face Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday.

Antonio was left out the squad completely that beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, despite missing the Premier League game with the same opponents three days before due to suspension.

The 31-year-old has enjoyed a superb start to the season for the Hammers as he has netted four goals and provided three assists in just four matches, winning the league’s Player of the Month award in August.

Speaking after their victory over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side on Wednesday, assistant manager Stuart Pearce confirmed that Antonio is fine and was simply rested for the game at Old Trafford.

He said: "He was all right for tonight, we just decided not to utilise him."

Meanwhile, right back Ryan Fredericks is unlikely to be fit for Saturday’s clash with Leeds despite confirming via social media that the injury he picked up on Wednesday was not serious.

Fredericks provided the cut back for Manuel Lanzini to net the first half winner at Man United but appeared to hurt himself in the same incident due to the advertising hoardings at Old Trafford.

The 28-year-old attempted to carry on after the incident but was replaced by Vladimir Coufal shortly after to cut short his night’s work.

Posting on his official Twitter after the match, he revealed that he doesn’t think that the issue he picked up will rule him out for too long.

He said: “Great win and performance tonight, shows how far we’ve come as a squad.

“Gutted to pick up the small injury but will be back in no time! #COYI.”
