West Ham's loan recall option for Grady Diangana explained as winger excels for West Brom

West Ham do have a recall clause to bring back academy graduate Grady Diangana from his loan spell at West Bromwich Albion if they choose to exercise it in January as the winger continues his fine form for his loan club.

The winger joined former Hammers manager Slaven Bilic at the Baggies on transfer deadline day, signing a year-long loan deal with the Championship league leaders.

It was seen as an excellent move at the time for a player who was likely to struggle for game time in east London having broken through last season and signing a big six-year contract extension at the club.

Diangana has made excellent use of his spell at The Hawthorns playing 14 times in the Championship so far, scoring four goals and bagging five assists to boot.

He got one of those last night as he laid a cross on a plate for Matt Phillips to open the scoring against lowly Stoke City. Diangana was then hacked down for a second half penalty, converted by Hal Robson-Kanu to seal the three points for Bilic's side.

Diangana's star turns for the Baggies have not gone unnoticed by Hammers, many of who are clamouring for the winger to be recalled and slotted straight into Manuel Pellegrini's startling lineup.

Felipe Anderson has struggled for form all season, Andriy Yarmolenko has scored three times but has proved to still be very inconsistent, Michail Antonio is injured and Pellegrini has tried to shoehorn Pablo Fornals into a wide role which simply hasn't worked.

Diangana's form this season led to a call up for the England U21s, having already represented the Three Lions at U20 level, for the games against Turkey and Kosovo but didn't see any game time on the international stage.

Had West Ham been in good form in recent weeks then the prospect of recalling Diangana would be small but now they are in a bit of rut, winless in five games in the league, there have been increased calls for the winger to come back to east London.

The 21-year-old made his breakthrough for the Hammers when he started the third round Carabao Cup tie against Macclesfield Town at London Stadium, scoring twice in an 8-0 rout and went on to make 17 appearances in the Premier League throughout the remainder of the season.
