West Ham's Declan Rice nominated for PFA award alongside Man City duo & Liverpool star

Every member of the PFA is given a vote in each of the individual categories and players are not allowed to vote for teammates from their own clubs and the awards are one of the two most lucrative available to individuals each season, along with the Football Writers’ Association awards that are issued in May.

Manchester City’s Leroy Sane won the award last season, while previous winners include Tottenham Hotspur trio Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Gareth Bale, along with Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard.

City are the only team to have two nominations in this year’s shortlist with Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva, both of whom are also on the shortlist for Player of the Year, named alongside Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.

Liverpool’s Trent-Alexander Arnold is also named with West Ham United’s Declan Rice and Bournemouth’s David Brooks, while it is interesting to see that four of the nominees are English.

Rice has enjoyed a fantastic season for Manuel Pellegrini's side, becoming an integral part of the Hammers lineup despite being dropped after the first game of the campaign - the 4-0 thumping away at Liverpool.

The 20-year-old fought his way back however and has gone on to play every minute of the Irons previous 30 Premier League matches. In February, Rice was called into the England squad for the first time having switched his allegiance to the Three Lions from Ireland. He came on as a substitute in the win over Czech Republic and played the full 90 during the victory away in Montenegro.
