West Ham's crucial and congested fixture run-in that could define relegation battle

West Ham could face a run of four games in 15 days to conclude the Premier League season after some provisional dates for their remaining six fixtures were revealed.

The Hammers have nine games to go for the rest of the campaign in their battle against the drop, starting with the home game against Wolves on June 20 before a trip to Spurs three days later and hosting Chelsea a week after that.

The dates for the remaining six games are not official yet as they are subject to change owing to broadcast coverage.

Kick off times are not yet known but the provisional dates are below:

Newcastle (A) July 4

Burnley (H) July 8

Norwich City (A) July 11

Watford (H) July 15

Man Utd (A) July 18

Aston Villa (H) July 26

The Hammers are set to travel to Old Trafford for their final away trip of the season to Man Utd but that fixture will be moved to the next midweek if the Red Devils reach the FA Cup semi-finals.

That could mean David Moyes’ side playing twice in either three days to end the season depending on when the match is moved to ahead of the Aston Villa home game.

That would become a very congested end to the campaign, more congested than it already is, with the FA Cup final slated for August 1 to bring the curtain down on the extended 2019/20 season.

Matches against fellow strugglers Norwich City and Watford back to back within three days of each other could be enormous in the context of the season, while the final home match of the campaign against another relegation-haunted side in Aston Villa could well be a showdown for who goes down to the Championship.

As with the three upcoming games, the final six matches of the campaign will all be played behind closed and subject to safety requirements being in place.

The first three games of the Hammers extended season will all be broadcast live on Sky Sports. News of further TV games will be announced in due course.
