West Ham player ratings vs Newcastle: Roberto hapless and Zabaleta dreadful in abject loss

Roberto - 2

What on earth he was doing for Fernandez's goal only he knows, making a horrendous decision to come out into no-mans land and leave the defender with the easiest of finishes. Two decent saves stopped it being 4-0 before half time. Should have stopped Shelvey's free kick as will with a poor attempt to palm away. Makes saves but also makes massive and costly errors.

Pablo Zabaleta - 2

Twisted and turned inside out by Saint-Maximin in the first half, could not get to grips with the winger. Did well to survive a half time hooking but made way on 73 minutes. Be a big surprise if he starts next week at Burnley.

Fabian Balbuena - 3

Looked very out of sorts, far too slow to react to situation and in turn puts panic stations in Diop. Angelo Ogbonna must be chuckling away at sitting on the bench having been dropped for no apparent reason. Bundling home a goal doesn't make up for his pitfalls at the back.

Issa Diop - 3

Booked for bringing down Almiron who had gassed him for the free kick prior to Clark's opener. Ran ragged by Joelinton. Marginally  Better than Balbuena but far, far away from his best.

Aaron Cresswell - 3

Horribly caught out by Almiron in the lead up to the free kick that Newcastle scored from. Inexplicably was marking goalscorer Clark who is a foot taller than him. Constantly pushed back by Almiron and couldn't get near the Paraguayan.

Declan Rice - 3

Try as he might, he could not get his team going. Passing was good but he was on the back foot throughout. Shelvey dominated the midfield.

Mark Noble - 3

Substituted off at half time following a very ineffective outing from the skipper. Anyone could have made way at the break, he was sacrificed.

Andriy Yarmolenko - 3

Very quiet in the first half, offered little and was hooked at the half. Not as bad as some of his teammates, but not great either,

Felipe Anderson - 4

Had a few runs forward but never looked threatening, it was more running out of hope than expectation. Did OK in the second half, showed plenty of willing and promise but his confidence looks shot at the moment.

Robert Snodgrass - 6

Set piece delivery was good  in the first period but didn't have much chance to create things as the home side looked dis-interested.  Balbuena bundled home one of his corners which was just reward. Cracking volley made it 3-2. Easily the Hammers best player on the day.

Sebastien Haller - 4

Isolated. No support. Where have we heard that before? Looks shot of confidence as well now. Had tow bicycle kicks on goal, one on target and one wide.

Substitutes

Albian Ajeti  (for Yarmolenko, 46') - 4

Put himself about but little impact

Manuel Lanzini (for Noble, 46') - 5

Showed some glimpses, looked to get the Hammers on the front foot but found space at a premium.

Ryan Fredericks (for Zabaleta, 72') - 5

Came on and put a great cross in but no-one was in the middle to take advantage. At least gave Jetro Willems some defending to do.
