West Ham player ratings vs Newcastle: Rice poor, Diop struggles, Bowen quiet

Lukasz Fabianski

Wasnt decisive enough as Wilson nipped in between the keeper and Issa Diop to score. 5

Ryan Fredericks

Newcastle clearly targeted his flank in the first half and the full back struggled up against Saint-Maximin and Jamal Lewis. Decent after the break as he got forward well and dealt with Saint-Maximin relatuvely well until one late challenge on the Frenchman saw Fredericks pick up a booking. 6

Issa Diop

Made a complete mess of a header that almost allowed former Hammer Andy Carroll to net. Static in allowing Wilson to get in front of him to open the scoring. 5

Angelo Ogbonna

Headed a thumping effort off the crossbar on 13 minutes. Authoritative and smart when defending Wilson. Best defender on show as usual but even he was below par. 6

Aaron Cresswell

Didn’t really have too much to do in the first half but was wasteful when presented with good crossing positions. Too ponderous in the second half, needs to be far more decisive. 5

Declan Rice

Making his 100th Premier League appearance for West Ham. Uncharacteristically quiet before playing a sublime pass in the build up to a chance for Bowen. That pass aside, the England man was really off his game. 5

Mark Noble

Played in a more advanced midfield role but was miles off the pace. Throughout the skipper was second best to most things and was subbed off halfway through the second period. 4

Tomas Soucek

Headed wide from a pinpoint Fredericks cross in the first half. Full of energy, got up and down the pitch. Little impact in the second half and cut a frustrated figure. One of the better home players but not outstanding. 6

Pablo Fornals

Barely anything of note until the 34th minute when he arrived late on the scene and hit a shot off the bar. Poor after the break and withdrawn for Yarmolenko kidway through the half. 4

Jarrod Bowen

Quiet in the first half and when a chance did come to him, he fluffed his lines from 16 yards out. Much the same after the break, barely featured and when shunted out nto the left to accommodate Yarmolenko, had little joy. 5

Michail Antonio

Spurned a good chance on 26 minutes but shot tamely at Darlow. Plenty of running but barely any chances of note. 6

Substitutions

Sebastien Haller (for Noble, 66’)

Gave a different dimension to the attack but didn't do much. 5

Andriy Yarmolenko (for Fornals, 66’)

Booked for dissent. 5
