West Ham player ratings vs Hull City: Yarmolenko excellent and Alese good in five-goal cruise

Darren Randolph

Had nothing to do in the first half but was once again very vocal at the back. Maybe could have done better with Wilks goal, the ball went through his legs. 6

Ben Johnson

Didn’t get booked early on for a change so he managed to have a relatively quiet outing. 6

Harrison Ashby

Had a decent effort on goal in the 11th minute which was saved and was very solid at right back throughout. Looks the part. Night ended early when he was clattered by Fleming in an awful challenge. 7

Fabian Balbuena

The experienced head in the back four wasn’t really tested at all by Josh Magennis. He might have wanted a bit more of a work out but a comfortable evening is probably as useful. 6

Ajibola Alese

Moved into his preferred centre half spot after the late withdrawal of Diop.Never looked overawed, dealt with Magennis very well despite giving him a couple of inches in height. 8

Robert Snodgrass

Scored a fine opening goal for the Hammers to get off the mark for the season. More minutes under his belt. Set piece delivery was spot on as per usual. 7

Jack Wilshere

Jack Wilshere is put under pressure by Daniel Batty of Hull City (Will Oliver - Pool/Getty Images)

Sat a bit deeper than maybe he would have liked to. Got some very valuable minutes in the tank and was too good for the Hull midfielders. 7

Manuel Lanzini

Fired wide a presentable opportunity five minutes before half time. Buzzed around in the midfield and was a threat all night. Linked well with Yarmolenko and especially Anderson. Looks to be finding some form in this competition. 8

Andriy Yarmolenko

Excellent cross set up Snodgrass’s opener and supplied Haller for the second goal of the game. Netted the third from the spot and pinged home a fourth late on. Was a threat all night long. Gave Lewie Coyle nightmares. 9

Felipe Anderson

Fired two early efforts over the crossbar. Looked lively throughout the encounter but did he do enough to oust Pablo Fornals? Probably not but still another good showing in the cup. 7

Sebastien Haller

Netted his third goal of the competition with a tap in from close range after good work from Yarmolenko. Netted a late second after doing well to keep his balance in the box and rounding Long. Four goals in the cup now for the Frenchman. 9

Subs

Manny Longelo (for Harrison Ashby, 70’)

Got caught cold for Wilks goal as the winger sauntered past the right back just seconds after coming on. 5
