West Ham player ratings vs Charlton: Josh Cullen impresses to give David Moyes headache for Arsenal

Darren Randolph

Nearly made a hash of William’s long range effort in his only action of the first half. Good save to deny Williams after the break. Very loud and commanding, constantly shouting at his defenders and instructing them. 7

Ben Johnson

Booked inside five minutes for dragging back Alfie Doughty. One outrageous piece of skill and subsequent pull back should have been buried by Haller. Bombed forward at will and defended stoutly despite being on a yellow. Good. 7

Issa Diop

The only player to retain his place from the weekend’s loss. Not really tested by Macauley Bonne. Struggled in the early stages of the second half after Charlton made changes but sorted himself out. 6

Fabian Balbuena

Skipper for the night. Dealt with Macauley Bonne fine but not so Chuks Aneke who came on at half time. One crucial clearing header midway through the second half. A much needed test for the Paraguayn which he did alright in. 6

Arthur Masuaku

Constantly overlapped Anderson and Yarmolenko in a bid to provide more width for the home side. As an attacking threat he was excellent, but he barely had any defending to do and as we all know, that’s his weakness. 7

Josh Cullen

Making his first competitive start for the Hammers since 2018 in the FA Cup. Wonderful pass released Yarmolenko to set up Haller’s opener. Controlled the midfield superbly throughout. Showed off his range of passing and his defensive nous with a couple of fine interceptions. 8

Robert Snodgrass

Pinpoint cross for Haller’s second goal of the evening. The experienced head led Cullen along well in the middle of the park. Got some crucial minutes under his belt in his first outing since lockdown. 7

Manuel Lanzini

Not much to report in the first half as the game passed him by a bit. Better after half time as he put himself about a bit more and tried to get more involved. Teed up Anderson for the third. A game of two halves for the Argentine. 7

Felipe Anderson

Very quiet in the first half, switched flanks midway through to try and get some joy but found very little. Improved after the break and dovetailed nicely with Masuaku, netted the third goal in a big confidence boost for the Brazilian. 7

Andriy Yarmolenko

Unselfish play to assist Haller for his opening goal. Saw plenty of the ball on either flank and always looked like he would cause problems. A bright spark throughout but spurned some decent chances. Always looks like he can create something. 7

Sebastien Haller

Should have opened the scoring on 19 minutes but scuffed wide from eight yards. Did so three minutes later when tapping home from five yards out. Excellent header doubled the Hammers lead. Quiet after the break, had one shot go wide but his work for the night was done in the first half. 8

Substitutes

Harrison Ashby (for Johnson, 81')

Got into one excellent position and put his cross in just ahead of everyone in the box. 5

Conor Coventry (for Sndograss, 81')

Showed a few nice touches. 5
