West Ham player ratings vs Brighton: Tomas Soucek gets Hammers out of jail

Lukasz Fabianski

Not much he could do with the Brighton goals but some of his kicking was very poor. 6

Vladimir Coufal

Had a rough first half at the hands of Solly March who got on the end of a few long balls from Dan Burn in behind the Czech. Got better as the game went on and was desensively solid. His crossing at the other end was not as good, however. 7

Fabian Balbuena

Plenty of headed clearances as Brighton’s direct style didn’t really hamper him too much. Not outstanding but not bad either. 6

Angelo Ogbonna

A calming, if vocal presence at the back once again. Can't be blamed for the two Brighton goals and put in another good shift defensively. 7

Aaron Cresswell

Moved back to a third centre half and did well again. Will get the assist for Soucek's goal as it was his corner that flicked off Lewis Dunk. Better delivery than Bowen offered. 7

Ben Johnson

Ben Johnson celebrates with teammate Aaron Cresswell (Kirsty Wigglesworth - Pool/Getty Images)

Making his first Premier League start of the season. He waa the only play to offer width on the left in a bizarre tactic from Moyes. But he did his job diligently, got up and down the flank and netted a sublime first career goal for the Hammers. 7

Declan Rice

Tried to get his very lethargic teammates going in the opening 45, popping up all over the pitch. That said, he was by far from his most effective and if anything, struggled. 6

Tomas Soucek

Couldn’t get into the game whatsoever in the first period. Unlucky that his clearing header was straight to Dunk for. On the ball, some of his passing was sloppy and he wasn’t having a good game until he popped up with the crucial equaliser. 7

Mark Noble

Ran around pretty aimlessly in a number ten role he is simply not used to, or good enough, to play. Unsurprisingly subbed at half time after offering very little. 4

Jarrod Bowen

His corner delivery was woeful in the first half and most of his work was going backwards. Hooked at the half. Looked knackered and could do with a rest. 4

Sebastien Haller

Some pretty hopeless passes up to him in his vague direction from his teammates. Not much of an impact, only one half a chance of note, another frustrating afternoon. 5

Substitutes

Andriy Yarmolenko (for Bowen, 46’)

Looked like a frustrating cameo again before it was his cross that caused mayhem in the Brighton box when West Ham equalised. Offered a threat throughout with his direct running but he needs to be quicker with his decision making. 6

Manuel Lanzini (for Noble, 46’)

Finally gave the Brighton defenders something to think about after their easiest 45 minutes of the season. Involved in the goal and was a threat throughout. 7
