West Ham player ratings vs Aston Villa: Michail Antonio frustrating as Lucas Paqueta makes costly mistake

West Ham fell to a heavy defeat as Aston Villa continued their strong form on home soil with a 4-1 win.

Douglas Luiz netted twice to put the hosts in charge and while Jarrod Bowen's deflected strike gave the visitors hope, Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey saw Villa run away with it late on.

It is now 11 home wins in a row in the Premier League for Villa, while West Ham must now bounce back from a poor afternoon.

Here's how David Moyes' side rated at Villa Park...

Alphonse Areola 5

Ought to have kept out Luiz's opener with a stronger hand even if slight deflection did him no favours. More frustrating that he had just saved brilliantly from the same player.

Vladimir Coufal 5

Failed to prevent Zaniolo pass reaching Watkins in build-up to Luiz goal.

Kurt Zouma 5

Lost Watkins for glaring early chance. Showed forward outside for his clincher but finish was too good.

Nayef Aguerd 6

Unfortunate to deflect Luiz strike in. Saw acrobatic effort headed over by Cash.

Emerson 6

Has quietly become one of Moyes's most reliable performers. Booked for cynical check on Cash.

Edson Alvarez 4

Lacked composure in possession and gave away penalty, for all he was put in dreadful position by Paqueta. First real off day since his summer arrival.

James Ward-Prowse 6

Running power of McGinn caused him problems. Villa defended his corners extremely well.

Tomas Soucek 5

One tough chance from Emerson cross but couldn't connect.

Lucas Paqueta 4

A little too quick to revert to direct ball in behind to Antonio in first half, then gave ball away with terrible pass in lead up to penalty.

Jarrod Bowen 6

Gave his side hope with strike that deflected in off Torres.

Michail Antonio 4

Has made a strong start to the season but this was one of his characteristic frustrating afternoons. Low cross almost forced Cash own goal late on.

Substitutes

Pablo Fornals (Antonio 90') N/A
