West Ham player ratings vs Aston Villa: Ben Johnson shines in final day draw

Lukasz Fabianski

Should have done better with Grealish's goal. Claiming from crosses was decent enough 6

Ryan Fredericks

Had a very tasty tussle with Jack Grealish throughout which was summed up by the right clattering the Villa man to earn a yellow card five minutes into the second half. Struggled with the Villa skipper and his lack of wanting to cross the ball in the box in attacking situations was maddening. 6

Issa Diop

Continued his vast improvement since lockdown with another decent outing. Made two very important clearing headers from Grealish set pieces. 7

Angelo Ogbonna

Extremely vocal at centre half, especially towards Ryan Fredericks. Took a worrying knock towards the end of the first half but shrugged it off to secure another clean sheet. 7

Ben Johnson

Switched to left back to replace the injured Aaron Cresswell and coped well on his weaker side, showing his versatility. Got forward vert well, especially in the second half and was very solid up against Trezeguet down that flank. Excellent. 8

Declan Rice

His tackling was a bit off and made a couple of late ones that were not punished by Michael Oliver. Controlled the game in the second half and was a notch above most of his teammates. 8

Mark Noble

Very industrious without having too much of an impact. Plenty of energy, passing was crisp but barely threatening. Subbed late on for Anderson. 6

Tomas Soucek

Not quite at his box-to-box best as we have seen in recent weeks but defensively he was very good, dominating Samatta and didn’t let him get near the centre halves. 7

Pablo Fornals

Made some very intelligent runs in the first 20 minutes but was ignored twice by Antonio and one by Noble. Passing sloppy after the break, has to improve that next season. Subbed for Lanzini. 6

Jarrod Bowen

Passed a late fitness test to take his place in the starting eleven but looked well off the pace in the first half. Barely got a sniff and was taken off at half time for Yarmolenko. Probably shouldn’t have started. 6

Michail Antonio

Scuffed wide on 12 minutes what should have been his 11th of the season after a fine ball from Diop. Looked leggy. Replaced at half time for his own good as he was getting very frustrated and conceding foul after foul and was already on a yellow. 6

Substitutes

Sebastien Haller (for Antonio, 46’)

Headed over a decent chance. 6

Andriy Yarmolenko (for Bowen 46’)

Got very lucky with the equaliser. 7

Manuel Lanzini (for Fornals, 67’)

Little of note other than firing a poor free kick into the wall. 6

Felipe Anderson (for Noble, 87') N/A
