West Ham news: Young star signs new contract, fan group to protest board, striker injury update

West Ham are not in action this weekend as the players and staff take their winter break after a busy first part of the season.

The Hammers won't be happy with their position going into the break, with them sitting in the third and final relegation spot.

But David Moyes' side return to action quicker than expected as they face one of the toughest tests in the Premier League during the week when they travel to the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City.

However, the opponents have been dealt a blow with the news that they face a two-year ban from the Champions League due to a breach of the financial fair play rules. There is also some suggestion that the team could face a Premier League points deduction.

That adds to what is already a big game for both clubs.

New deal confirmed

West Ham youngster Amadou Diallo has put pen to paper on his first professional contract at the club having made it through the ranks at the Academy of Football.

On his 17th birthday, Diallo has been rewarded for his solid first half of the season, with two goals in eight games for the Under-23s so far this season having made his breakthrough as a 16-year-old last season.

A boyhood West Ham fan, Diallo joined the club aged 10 and in just seven short years has done enough to earn himself a professional deal.

Fans to launch new protest

Under-fire West Ham owners David Gold and David Sullivan, plus vice chairman Karren Brady, will see more protests against their ownership of the club on February 29 prior to the Premier League clash against Southampton.

Fan group Hammers United held a static protest prior to the draw with Everton at London Stadium last month but prior to the Saints game at the end of this month, they will be going on a march instead.

 

Xande Silva close to return

Xande Silva is closing in on a return to full fitness for West Ham's under-23s after more than six months on the sidelines having undergone emergency bowel surgery in the summer.

The 23-year-old frontman made his comeback off the bench for the youngsters in their most recent outing, a 4-2 win over Sunderland in PL2 division two. He picked up here he left off as well, scoring in that game having done so on a regular basis for the team last season.

Silva had been sidelined all season after had surgery just a few days from reporting back to Rush Green for pre-season training with Manuel Pellegrini keen to integrate him into the first team.

There are still very high hopes for the striker at the club now he is close to a proper return and he has taken to social media to give us all a tantalising glimpse of what is to come from him.
