West Ham news this week: Hammers have a fighting chance if they can replicate Arsenal performance

After a revitalising display against Southampton last month, West Ham went into Saturday's meeting with Arsenal filled with confidence.

They started quickly and could have been well ahead of the Gunners by the break, Jarrod Bowen slapping one against the post while Michail Antonio and Sebastien Haller both wasted golden chances in front of goal.

Having looked down and out not too long ago, performances have turned under David Moyes of late. West Ham were unfortunate not to come away from Liverpool with something while they were rampant against the Saints.

With Wolves and Tottenham coming next, similar showings will give them more than a fighting chance of moving clear of the drop, if only they can find their touch in front of goal.

The arrival of Bowen has added new impetuous to Moyes' side, his energy, quick feet and pace creating a number of chances for the Hammers, but they're simply not finishing them off.

"Losing to Arsenal is so frustrating as we had many clear-cut chances," said the January signing.

"The display and the work ethic were there, though we need to be more ruthless in front of goal. It's so tight in the bottom half — but we can't worry about what other teams are doing.

"We know the quality we have, so we need to keep performing like we have done in recent weeks.

"But we also must take our chances to drag ourselves away from where we are at the minute."

In Haller and Antonio, Moyes has a front two which can cause any defence problems on their day. If he can stop them firing blanks then the Hammers will be safe in no time.
