West Ham news: Pellegrini's stongest XI, Ancelotti warning and a 12-day break post Southampton

It is a crucial time for West Ham United a Manuel Pellegrini.

The Hammers are in poor form in the league, and now sit just one point above the Premier League relegation zone.

A 3-1 defeat against Arsenal, who themselves were on a poor run in the league, was West Ham's fifth defeat in six games. The team were ahead in the match, but the Gunners turned the game around to give fans a familiar feeling.

Given that form, it's perhaps not surprising that manager Manuel Pellegrini finds himself under pressure, with speculation that the next game against fellow strugglers Southampton could be his last in charge of the Hammers.

West Ham v Arsenal: Manuel Pellegrini press conference in full

So, as the team prepare for the encounter, here is the latest news from the London Stadium from the last 24 hours.

Pellegrini's strongest XI

Manuel Pellegrini is coming under increasing pressure at the London Stadium, with the coming games said to be crucial in whether the Chilean will be at the club in the new year.

Although there is a 12-day break after the Hammers' crucial match against Southampton, after that comes a run of four games in just 10 days.

But what would be the strongest lineup available to Pellegrini for the hectic festive period?

Carlo Ancelotti warning

With the pressure on Pellegrini, there has already been names linked to the job at the London Stadium should the Hammers' chiefs make a decision to make a change at the top.

One name that has been linked with a return to the Premier League is former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti, who lost his job at Serie A side Napoli a matter of days ago.

Everton and Arsenal, who are both on the lookout for new managers have been linked with the Italian.

Jermaine Jenas has said that West Ham may also be interested should they be on the lookout for a new manager.

But the former midfielder has a warning for the club.

12-day rest reason

As mentioned previously, unusually for the Christmas period, West Ham have a period of 12-days without a match after the weekend's Premier League fixture against Southampton.

The Hammers do not have a game on the weekend of the 21st and 22nd of December, but there is a full Premier League fixture list that weekend.
