West Ham news: Moyes' decision slammed, Bowen on debut and Joe Gomez's Liverpool warning

Things don't get any easier for West Ham as they look to move out of the Premier League relegation zone.

David Moyes' team were beaten comfortably by reigning champions Manchester City on Wednesday night with goals from Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne giving Pep Guardiola's men a routine 2-0 win.

Next up for the Hammers is a trip to Anfield to take on runaway league leaders Liverpool, who are closing in on their first ever Premier League title. Jurgen Klopp's men have a 22-point gap over Manchester City in second place.

It's a different story for West Ham, but they could move out of the relegation zone with a surprise win.

Liverpool vs West Ham United odds

Ahead of Monday's match, here is the latest news from the London Stadium over the last 24 hours.

Moyes slammed for Bowen decision

West Ham boss David Moyes has been slammed by former West ham goalkeeper Robert Green for not starting January recruit Jarrod Bowen against Manchester City on Wednesday night.

The midfielder made his long-awaited debut in a Hammers shirt coming on as a second half substitute.

The decision has seen Moyes criticised for his decision to not start the 23-year-old, with Green giving his thoughts.

Bowen himself has been talking following the defeat to Man City and his debut for the Hammers.

The midfielder enter the field of play with just 10 minutes of the game to play, and has explained what the manager had to say to the team after the defeat.

“I think the gaffer was saying after the game as he couldn’t fault the work-rate as everyone puts in 100 per cent in each game and he can see that," he told the club's official website.

"It’s just the quality to win football games now and those fine margins that when chances come, we’ve got to take them and be more ruthless and when we play against those teams around us, we’ve got to be picking up three points against them.”

Joe Gomez's warning

West Ham next challenge is a trip to Anfield to take on runaway league leaders Liverpool on Monday evening.

The Reds suffered a rare defeat during the week, losing 1-0 to Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie.

However, defender Joe Gomez has sent a warning to West Ham before the Premier League clash.

“It’s disappointing and not something we’re used to,” the defender told Liverpoolfc.com after the defeat.

“But if anything, it just gives us that motivation to bounce back and make it right as quickly as possible. Sometimes it happens and you need to take the positives from it.

“It gives us that hunger again – not that we didn’t have it but we just want to bounce back and make it right. That’s what we’ll try to do.”
