West Ham news: Mauricio Pochettino 'approach', Woodgate on Randolph links and a transfer race

West Ham have a big game on the horizon as they look to put a gap between them and the Premier League relegation zone.

The Hammers face struggling Southampton at St Marys in the 5.30pm kick off tonight, with Manuel Pellegrini's men just one point above their opponents, who are sitting in the final relegation spot.

A run of five defeats in their last six games, a 3-1 defeat against Arsenal being the latest result, has put Pellegrini under increasing pressure, with many suggesting that failure to get a positive result from the next game will see him become the next managerial casualty in the Premier League.

Ahead of the match, why not take a look at the latest news from the London Stadium?

Mauricio Pochettino 'approach'

Reports over the last 24 hours claim that West Ham have made an initial approach to former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino about possibly taking over from under pressure Manuel Pellegrini.

The Chilean could be the next Premier League manager to lose his job if reports are to be believed.

However, the  Mirror have reported that Pochettino has rejected the Hammers' advances and maintains he won't be taking any job until the summer.

The arrival of Pochettino would have been an ambitious move by West Ham, and the links have got Tottenham fans talking.

Woodgate plays down Randolph links

Former West Ham goalkeeper has been linked with a return to the London Stadium, but Middlesbrough boss Jonathan Woodgate has played down the links.

TEAMtalk  reported on Monday that the Republic of Ireland international had entered talks with the Hammers ahead of a potential January return.

However, Woodgate has poured cold water on the rumours.

“That’s the right word – ‘linked’. I’ll let you know when we've got some news on that,” he said.

“At the minute we're not in January so when we cross that bridge I’ll let you know.”

Hammers 'leading the race' for Berg

West Ham are said to be 'leading the race' for Genk midfielder Sander Berg, ahead of a number of other Premier League sides, according to reports.

Liverpool, Aston Villa, Sheffield United and Brighton and Hove Albion are said to be among the interested parties, but according to BleacherReport , it is West Ham who lead the race for the player.

It is claimed that after a brief spell at the club, Berg is keen to return to the London Stadium. The Norwegian is said to cost around £20 million.
