West Ham news: Huge Fabianski injury boost, Man United eye Declan Rice, Darren Randolph latest

It was a disappointing night for West Ham on Friday as they narrowly fell to defeat against Sheffield United at Brammal Lane.

Oli McBurnie netted the only goal of the game at Bramall Lane, but the Hammers were denied a late equaliser as Robert Snodgrass had an injury time strike ruled out following a VAR review, with Declan Rice penalised for handball in the build-up.

There was more bad news for the Hammers too as goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski going off after just 13 minutes with the recurrence of the injury that has previously kept him out of action.

West Ham are in action again next week when they host Everton at the London Stadium. And they are close to making a new addition to the squad.

Premier League round-up: Liverpool maintain lead

Take a look at the latest news from Stratford, including some transfer updates.

Huge Fabianski boost

West Ham have confirmed that Lukasz Fabianski will only be out for a couple of weeks after scans revealed that the goalkeeper did not suffer a recurrence of a hip injury from earlier this season.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper was substituted in the 13th minute of Friday’s 1-0 defeat at Sheffield United, having felt pain in the same hip muscle he injured against Bournemouth back in September.

But it's not as bad as it could have been .

Declan Rice scouted

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly sent his personal scout to watch West Ham midfielder Declan Rice in action.

United are said to be plotting a summer move for the midfielder, and Solskjaer instructed Simon Wells to watch West Ham’s 1-0 defeat against Sheffield United on Friday night.

The 20-year-old played a key role in an equalising goal in stoppage time, winning the ball before slotting Felipe Anderson in to finish - only for VAR to disallow the goal due to handball.

According to the  Mail , Wells is Solskjaer’s most-trusted scout and focuses solely on players to improve United’s first team, having stepped up to the new role in September.

Darren Randolph latest

Middlesbrough boss Jonathan Woodgate has hinted that West Ham's attempt to sign Darren Randolph could move on within the next 48 hours.

The Boro keeper has been strongly linked with a return to the Hammers , two-and-a-half years after leaving the club.

However, the Guardian have said that the Hammers are further examining Randolph's thigh injury which has kept him out of 12 of Middlesbrough's last 14 games.

football.London has been told Randolph would undergo a second examination and there were no concerns that a deal will collapse.
