West Ham news: Hammers heading to Australia, Ollie Watkins links, transfer plans

FA Cup fifth round action is the main focus in English football in the first midweek of March.

West Ham United's quest for an Wembley appearance in May came to an end in round four when they were beaten at home by West Brom - the Championship leaders currently managed by Slaven Bilic.

An early exit from the competition does at least allow David Moyes to focus on avoiding relegation and a 3-1 win over Southampton at the weekend was certainly a much needed result.

Things get tougher on Saturday as United are back in action with a London derby against Arsenal.

West Ham fans protest against club's owners

As ever, football.london will have all the build-up to the game at the Emirates Stadium as the Hammers look to spring a surprise by denting the Gunners' Champions League hopes and bolstering their survival bid.

With that said, here's all the news from around the London Stadium over the past 24 hours.

Summer tour confirmed

West Ham have confirmed they will be travelling to Australia to play two pre-season friendlies ahead of the 2020/21 season as they will take part in the EVA Air Queensland Champions Cup.

The Hammers are one of three teams who will take part in the tournament as they take their place alongside fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace and A-League side Brisbane Roar, managed by former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler.

West Ham are visiting Australia as a team for just the second time in the club's history having travelled there previously in 1995 to play four friendlies to celebrate the club's 100th anniversary.

David Moyes' transfer plans

West Ham currently have no plans to ditch either Winston Reid or Jack Wilshere once the 2019/20 season is over - at least not at the moment anyway.

Reid is currently on loan at MLS outfit Sporting Kansas City, whose season started at the weekend with a 3-1 victory over Vancouver but the Hammers defender wasn't included in the matchday 18.

Wilshere meanwhile is currently sidelined once again having undergone a hernia operation in February but hasn't played for the first team since October last year.

Ollie Watkins

The Bees sit fifth in the table and Watkins' form up front for Thomas Frank's side has been key to their success this campaign as he has netted 22 goals in 35 outings in 2019/20.

That has reportedly alerted Hammers manager David Moyes to the striker for a second time in the past couple of months having supposedly wanted to bring Watkins to London Stadium in January.

Moyes instead signed Jarrod Bowen from Hull City for a £22m fee and that reaped dividends at the weekend as the forward scored his first goal for the club in a 3-1 win over Southampton.
