West Ham United’s hopes of signing Southampton defender Jan Bednarek on loan are set to be over.
The Hammers had been keen on signing the Polish international on loan with Craig Dawson expected to depart the London Stadium before deadline day. However, the centre-back is now heading to one of the Irons’ Premier League rivals.
football.london understands that Bednarek is currently heading to Villa Park for a medical ahead of a one-year loan move, first reported by The Athletic.

It leaves David Moyes now having to turn their attentions elsewhere in the hopes of signing a centre-back to replace Dawson before the window closes at 11pm on Thursday evening.
The club had been keen on a move for Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car. However, the Croatian is currently closing in on a move to St Mary’s following Bednarek’s imminent exit.
Moyes' side have also had a bid of £6.9million rejected to sign Torino right-back Ola Aina. The Nigerian international, who previously played for Chelsea spent the 2020/21 season on loan in the Premier League with Fulham.
West Ham had also been credited with interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Leander Dendoncker. However, the Belgian, like Bednarek, is closing in on a move to Villa.
