West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere reveals his injury status after yet another long lay-off

Jack Wilshere has revealed he is back in full training with West Ham having played just ten minutes of game time since September last year after yet another long lay-off.

Wilshere needed minor ankle surgery after picking up a problem in his ankle after training following a ten-minute run out against Newcastle United on December 1. Before that, he hadn't featured since the 1-0 defeat against Wolves at the London Stadium on September 1.

The midfielder has had a disastrous time of things after moving to West Ham following 17 years at Arsenal last summer. He started the first four Premier League games of the campaign but the Hammers lost all of them. He then got injured, returned on Tyneside and picked up a late asist for Felipe Anderson before his second problem of the season.

Wilshere has had a wretched time of things with injuries throughout his career and there were fears that he could miss the rest of this campaign as a result of his second injury. Manuel Pellegrini took the risk and handed Wilshere a three-year contract last summer but so far, that has backfired spectacularly.

What Guillermo Maripan's manager has said about him amid West Ham transfer rumours

West Ham have been extremely careful with his return to training and Pellegrini has consistently said that the 27-year-old needed to rest as much as possible before even making a comeback.

We don't know if he will make that comeback before the end of this season but Wilshere himself has now revealed he is back in full training at Rush Green and wants to return before the end of the season.

Argentina injury update fails to address West Ham star Lanzini's absence for Venezuela loss

The midfielder said: "That is the plan [before the end of the season].

"I am back in full training - it has been a long time, frustrating but it was something I had to do after speaking to the specialists.

"I am trying to get fit [but] it is not a great time to come back because you get fully fit, maybe play a couple of games and then the season finishes.

"It is going to be a big off-season for me as well but I am feeling good and I want to play again this [season].

"We still need to finish strong and push for that Europa League place. Everyone is happy. We are playing better football and we have brought in good players so I am looking forward to getting back in there with the boys."
