West Ham make statement condemning anti-Semitic singing by fans on flight ahead of Genk clash

West Ham have condemned fans on a flight to Belgium chanting an anti-Semitic song towards a Jewish passenger in the build-up to their Europa League clash against Genk .

The Hammers picked up a vital point on the continent as they secured qualification from the Europa League group stages with a 2-2 draw against the Belgian side.

Inside the Luminus Arena, the supporters roared on the east Londoners who continued their impressive unbeaten run in all competitions.

"I thought the away fans were fabulous. They were great, right from the start, they were incredible," David Moyes stated in his post-match press conference.

"They were in the ground very early but I think in the Premier League our away fans have been very good and we appreciated it.

"They were all looking forward to the European games they were all really looking forward to because it's something which we've not had."

However, the manager was unaware of the disturbing scenes that occurred prior to the game getting underway.

The incident itself was filmed on a plane to Belgium with a section of fans targeting a Jewish man. The events were recorded and posted to social media, with West Ham releasing a statement on the matter.

"West Ham are appalled by the contents of the video circulating on social media and condemn the behaviour of the individuals involved," the club spokesperson said.

They added they are "liaising with the airline and relevant authorities to identify the individuals".

The club continued: "We continue to be unequivocal in our stance - we have a zero-tolerance approach to any form of discrimination.

"Any individuals identified will be issued with an indefinite ban from the club.

"Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the football club and we do not welcome any individuals who do not share those values."
