West Ham make contract decision as Hammers legend Mark Noble sets his retirement date

Mark Noble has put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension that will see the club captain remain a West Ham player for one final season.

The 33-year old joined the club as a trainee in 2003 before making his first-team debut aged 17 in 2004. Noble spent two short periods away from the club on loan to Hull City and Ipswich Town in 2006 before cementing his place in the first team.

The midfielder has gone on to play over 500 matches for West Ham and sit's seventh on the list of all-time appearance makers for the club.

Noble's one-year contract extension is to be his last as a West Ham player, according to talkSPORT, and will see the captain able to bow out in front of what will no doubt be an emotional London Stadium.

He has made 18 appearances for David Moyes team across all competitions this season but has just three league starts to his name as he has played a supporting role to the likes of Premier League ever-presents Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek.

Such is the regard that Noble holds at the club that any time he is substituted onto the field Rice runs straight over to him and hands him the captain's armband.

Noble's time as a player at the club is coming to an end after 18-years at the club but the midfielder hopes it will not be his last involvement with the Hammers.

"The Premier League really is a young man’s game," he said. "It is such an athletic game and I’ve been lucky enough to play in it week in, week out for 16 years. I’ve had my fair share of games.

“The manager knows this club for me is where it all began and probably where it will finish.

“He’s got me in the changing room so if he needs me he knows I’m here but I’m going to enjoy my last little bit of time as a West Ham player.

“Hopefully in the future, I see myself being in the background at West Ham, making decisions and helping the manager and having a role that sort of way.”
