West Ham losing race to sign Maxi Gomez as Valencia close in on transfer

West Ham are losing the race for Maxi Gomez and as per a number of reports in Spain, football.london understands that the striker looks set to head to the Mestalla and not London Stadium.

The saga has changed so much over the last few days however that nothing can be certain.

West Ham have been trying desperately for three days now to try and secure the Uruguayans signature as the club has said they will meet the €50m buyout clause inn the 23-year-old's contract. The Hammers would rather pay the fee in installments though than have to go to La Liga HQ and deposit £47m.

But Celta Vigo were not willing to deal in installments, football.london learned that West ham were offering to pay over a massive seven years.

There are some reports in Spain that the deal is already done and that Gomez could be announced as a Valencia player as early as today (Tuesday).

West ham were offering to increase Gomez's wages by nearly five times his current £15,000 a week wage in Spain while Valencia were offering only double what he is on.

But Los Che can offer Champions League football next season and the chance for Gomez to stay in Spain where he is settled having moved from Defensor in Uruguay.

The Hammers have done all they can to try and convince Gomez to move to the capital and the striker's agents Stellar Group have also been pushing for him to move to the Premier League but the player seemingly only had eyes on the Mestalla.
