West Ham line up Maxi Gomez transfer as Javier Hernandez seeks Spain move

Javier Hernandez is looking to leave West Ham and move to Spain.

The Mexican striker has struggled to settle in east London since joining West Ham for £16million from Bayer Leverkusen in 2017.

West Ham want to sign Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez to lead their attack alongside Marko Arnautovic and manager Manuel Pellegrini is willing to let Hernandez leave.

The 31-year-old has one year left on his contract and his departure would free up his £140,000-a-week salary on the wage bill at the London Stadium.

Valencia moved to sign Hernandez in January but a proposed move failed to materialise. He spent the 2014-15 season on loan at Real Madrid and is seeking a return to La Liga.

Hernandez also had interest from the MLS but he would prefer to stay in Europe. New franchise Austin FC are keen on the former Manchester United player but they do not join the MLS until 2021.

Hernandez has made 59 appearances for West Ham, scoring 16 goals.

West Ham’s pursuit of Gomez could drag on throughout the summer, with Celta Vigo reluctant to sell him for less than his £43.5m release clause.

The Hammers had an opening £25m bid for Gomez rejected but the Pellegrini wants to refresh his forward options and the 22-year-old, who is currently part of the Uruguay squad at the Copa America, remains his top target.

Inter Milan are interested in Arnautovic but the Austrian is expected to stay at West Ham.
