West Ham leading Christian Eriksen transfer race as Arsenal option remains on the table

West Ham United are reportedly leading the race for Christian Eriksen as he's set to leave Inter after just 12 months.

The Dane moved to the Serie A giants from Tottenham in January 2020 but has struggled to adapt to the demands of coach Antonio Conte.

Eriksen has managed just four league starts this season and has frequently been afforded only brief cameos as a substitute.

Inter have made clear they're ready to offload him next month and Tuttomercatoweb reports that it's West Ham who are surprising favourites for his signature.

Conte met with the Nerazzurri hierarchy on Tuesday and it's understood David Moyes' side are ahead of Arsenal in the race.

As a former Tottenham star making the move to their bitter rivals could prove difficult for the Dane.

The Hammers currently sit 10th in the English Premier League and Eriksen could be the kind of star signing who could inspire a Europa League push.

Inter transfer chief Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed he's on the market.

The general manager said: "I would say yes (he's for sale), it was said by (sporting director) Piero Ausilio and I can repeat it.

"It's not a punishment though. He's had trouble adapting, he's not functional, but this is an objective fact that isn't a knock on his professionalism.

"Clearly we have to find the right solution."
